+126 Country and pop music are almost the same. They're both sometimes annoyingly catchy, get stuck in your head, and have very simple lyrics, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No way. Country singers write meaningful songs that are not annoying, and country artists are seldom autotuned and they have real talent. This post is retarded. You can never compare country and pop.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, you can actually. I just did.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, you can, but you reaallllyyy shouldn't.

There's this new thing called the "Reply Button." You should try it out.

Yes, I know. I apparently forgot to press it though.

Sorry, I'm pretty easy to jump to conclusions.

By this logic, rape and pretzels are almost the same, because they both exist on earth.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And they're both really twisted.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That could also apply to every other genre.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

country sounds bad, but has good lyrics. pop is just catchy with almost pointless lyrics.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most country songs are more meaningful than a lot of other genres. I wouldn't call country song's lyrics simple, well most of them...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Way to over analyze my generalizations, people. Meaningful lyrics or not, country is just about as annoying as pop. Not that I hate all pop or country, I just dislike the majority. And it's not even the songs really... it's the fact that 95% of the music stations in my area are country stations (I'm not exaggerating). The other two radio stations are pop stations that can't go 45 minutes without playing a song twice. Thank God for mp3 players.

I generally don't like country. I really don't like pop. However, I like Johnny Cash, which gives me the hope that there are more really good country artists out there so... Country > Pop Some bad, popular country = Pop

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I consider Johnny Cash indie more than country. Even in his early days. I was basically referring to the bad popular country that's in the top 40's but I didn't want to be overly specific in my post.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think if you would have been more specific, less people would have been upset. I was pretty sure that's what you meant.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah.. but if I were too specific the post would have been too long and it would take away from it. Oh well

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It depends...there's a lot of meaningful country music, but quite a few random ones too. As for pop, I'm trying to figure out which pop you are referring to. There's many songs that have no other category besides "pop" that never hit the radio. If you're referring to rap/r&b/singer-songwriter music on radio as pop, then yes, most songs have no meaning behind lyrics.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Update: I'm talking about the majority of popular country music (90's and up) and pop music that's in the top 40's which gets played on the radio every 10 minutes. Obviously I can't mean ALL country and pop because I haven't heard all country and pop. Truth is, I like live country and older country.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Stereotypically speaking, I agree. However, there are some great pop and country songs (though generally, I don't like either genres).
