English teachers need to find some happier books to assign to kids, amirite?

In my english class this year we read Night, 1984, Julius Caesar, A Tale of Two Cities, Lord of the Flies, Hamlet, and Of Mice and Men. It was a slew of despondency.

I read Macbeth, Of Mice and Men, and Lord of the Flies in one year. Not only was there a lot of killing and violence, but they all sucks. Macbeth was actually pretty good, but I hated the other two.

"They all sucks?" I can see why.

The theme of english class in high school is death
:l there's always so much death, that when there isn't, my class would be all, "wow, this book sucks, no one died in it." or "WHY DOES THIS BOOK HAVE CLOSURE? THERE'S SOMETHINg WRONG HERE." it's great. It throws us off when things actually end up alright.

When we started advanced English Literature, our teacher told us: you should know that all literature is about sex. Or death. Or both. And it is never happy.
Kay, thanks.

We read Animal Farm, Julius Caesar, and Night. Those were the sad ones, and pretty much the only ones I remember doing. They have so much more meaning. They serve a purpose.
