+226 If third world countries had the educational opportunities we have, they'd be populated by geniuses, amirite?

what makes you think they would be any smarter than western students? there will obviously be both geniuses and average students. or do you think they value education more than western students who take it for granted? because if they had the opportunities we do, some of them would eventually take it for granted as well

I'm sure there are plenty of American students who care about education and don't take it for granted. I'm just saying that in poor countries, many people are grateful for education and anything that helps them survive. With the other factors that'd make them remain a developing nation, the only thing of quality they'd really have would be education, and therefore they'd remain frugal. There are people in the US who are really poor and have the same opportunities but with bad parenting and being surrounded by those who make bad choices, they'd probably do drugs and get F's. So I guess that's a valid argument and I may be wrong. I'm not ranting about how ignorant Americans are or anything. The moral of this post is not to take education for granted. And you're definitely right about some of them taking it for granted, but for the most part, most kids wouldn't. Everybody's different.

or they'd be the same as us...

I used logic behind my point, but I guess your point is just as possible as mine. The only way to know for sure is if it actually happened. But anyway, I won't go to my grave defending one little post...
