You can usually tell by the book's thickness.

It's really unnecessary though. If it's a book of considerable length and going to be in a bookstore right next to a lot of other novels, it's pretty easy to tell it's a novel.

You can only see those label if a celebrity is writing it. A person might think it's a memoir or something.

Sometimes it's really hard to gather from the title what type of book it is. I've seen historical fiction about Washington, but if it hadn't said "novel" I might have believed it was a biography. Novels have weird names.
