+306 it would be weird to go to school in Brittan and hear how they learn about our revolutionary war, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

More like awkward:p

by Anonymous 12 years ago

"Brittan" as in Britain? We don't learn about your revolutionary war.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

but we fought against "Britain"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Britain has a lot more history to cover than America does.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

lolwut

by Anonymous 12 years ago

We don't only learn about America's history.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My mistake. I saw someone else say that once, so I just figured.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So... you didn't learn about when a group of people rebelled against you and started their own country only some 200 years ago? Sheesh, your schools are worse than ours.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

A bold claim.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Keyword: Only. They don't only learn about America's history, but of course they do learn about that. Why would they focus all their time learning about America's history? Of course they learn about the revolutionary war, but they learn a lot of other stuff too.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My b, I thought they were saying never to have learned about it period.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I did! and I'm American. They didn't really cover our side of it, just what was happening in England with the kings and whatnot

by Anonymous 12 years ago

We learned the whole of US history at A-Level. I probably know more about it than most Americans. It's pretty similar. But the Americans aren't the 'good guys'. I think it's more objective for us. The Brits were assholes, and some other assholes had a revolution.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's kinda like when Americans learn about the French Revolution. We are only taught that it happened and it was in France.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Lucky. I spent an entire month covering EVERYTHING about it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

YOU're the lucky one! The French Revolution is fucking stupendous!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

but britain faught against the u.s. in our revolutionary war so it would be interesting to know how they learned about the war since they lost

by Anonymous 12 years ago

...same way we learn about the vietnam war i guess...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm sorry, but this whole post is stupid. Just the comments made; you put "Britain" after someone corrected you as if Britain is the wrong spelling. You make out as if America is the almighty country, but it's not. We live in a world where everything should be equal, so stop making comments belittling Britain as it's not bad, you're just making it sound bad. You misspell our words and play it off as if you're making your own language. Okay, thanks.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They don't "misspell our words." America spells words differently than most other English speaking countries. There's not much difference between favorite/favourite, theater/theatre, center/centre, etc. In fact, when you look at how the majority of the rest of the world spells things, WE'RE the one spelling words wrong.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If English originates from England therefore the English (UK) spelling of it is right rather than all the other variations that other English speaking countries use.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Except their language is based off from ours? They made theirs from ours, so how can we be wrong? It's like you making a new food, I change one part of the recipe and tell you that you've done it wrong. It's not wrong, you're the creator. Jheiz

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Except that languages evolve. Since the US and the UK are far apart, their languages evolved separately. It's why we use different words for certain objects (like sneakers/trainers and sweaters/jumpers). It doesn't make the different spellings wrong. It just makes them, well, different. There are variations of every language out there, not just English.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

*cough*ignorant*cough*

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You can call me ignorant all you want, but you probably don't know the meaning of it. Nothing I have said is ignorant in the slightest, it's fact. The only thing you could say is that I'm ignorant of other languages, and although it may look like that, it's not that at all. I've said all I am going to, so I'll just leave it at that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's theater when talking about a movie theater, it's theatre when talking about going to an actual theatre. Your argument is invalid.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think it depends on who you're talking to. Some people spell it "theater" no matter what and vice-versa.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I've never seen anyone spell it just theatre because the people who know the difference use it. But people who only use theater don't know that there is a difference.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Just because you haven't seen people do it doesn't mean that people do. And there isn't really a huge difference. Personally, I spell them both "theatre". Both ways are technically correct, and they're interchangeable.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

whats your favorite COLOR?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's colour.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This reminds me of how some people in the South call the American Civil War the War of Northern Aggression. It's like, you lost the war! Blacks are free, now move on

by Anonymous 12 years ago

War of Northern Aggression? Seriously? I've lived in southern Mississippi all my life and have NEVER heard that. It's not like Southerner's are a bunch of stupid, ignorant racists. We don't resent the North, and nobody cares about the Civil War (oh, excuse me, War of Northern Aggression) anymore. We're just people.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not saying everywhere in the South is like that, but there are places. Don't kid yourself. Let's remember South Carolina flew the Confederate flag above the capitol this millennium and still fly that flag near the capitol.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

yeah South Carolina still flies the confederate flag at the state house, but it doesn't mean we still want slavery. that's like saying if you fly the British flag you wish we were still colonies.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not saying it's because you want slavery, at this point it's more of a Southern pride thing I assume. But even so, it's pretty twisted that you take pride from the fact that you tried to form a new country on the basis of slavery

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There were also disagreements on states' rights. Slavery wasn't the whole reason. The Confederate flag is basically just a symbol of the South. It doesn't support slavery, it's just a part of our history. It's not like we're proud that we tried to secede from the U.S. 99% of people down here are glad that we lost.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Clearly you grew up in the South. Of course there were disagreements on state rights, but where did those come from? Slavery. Southern states (esp. SC) wanted to do things their own way and not compromise with the federal government. Also, regarding the flag, it really isn't a part of your history. It was formed in 1861, nearly a century after most Confederate states were admitted into the Union. It's a symbol of the resistance to to the North over the issue of slavery. I guess that's part of your history, but it doesn't represent anything else. And saying the Confederate flag doesn't support slavery is like saying the Soviet Union flag doesn't support Communism.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It isn't a part of our history? That's like saying that the Civil War wasn't a part of American history. By what you say, because it happened 100 years after the Revolutionary War, that it's not history. A flag of the Confederacy is just to represent the difference of culture and southern heritage. Nothing more.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're right, it is part of your history. It represents the part of your history where you fought a war to secede from the US in order to protect slavery. Simple as that. It doesn't represent the difference of culture and southern heritage because the flag was made specifically for the war. It IS the war. If you want a flag to show your southern pride, try a state flag. Last time I checked, every state has one.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not sure where you heard that, but I live in Texas, and I've never heard it called that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Hmmm... Interesting. I doubt if it's all that popular though. I've never heard of it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The South called it that right after the war and during the war. Today I'm sure a few people call it that, but just a few.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It would be a lot weirder to go to a German school and learn about world war two.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They learn about it as if it was another country, they're pretty ashamed

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'd be more ashamed if I was French and learned about WWII

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You say this as if Americans are the only people on this site.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

...same way the south learns about the Civil War...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm pretty sure that we learn about it the same way that the North does.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yea, I know. I'm from the south...ish. Thats pretty much what I was getting at. We learn about it the same way because history is supposed to be taught without any bias. The only difference is that they (Britain) probably have the american revolution smushed in with all the other country's revolutions that broke away with them (australia, their colony in india, etc)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Something that shocked me about my school (an american school) was that my history teachers failed to emphasize that britain was in a WAR. and the king didn't personally tax us to spend on himself; the government made the decision to raise taxes to pay for the war. I'm glad I looked into this once I was older, because otherwise I would have lived assuming the king at the time was a giant douchebag. HOWEVER...I could have been taught about their side as well, but to be honest I was a messed up kid and most of my elementary years are blocked out in my memory o.o
