+213 It's crazy to think that if it were possible, you could count how many atoms of each element there are in the entire Universe and that number wouldn't change for the rest of eternity, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well actually im pretty sure it does change all the time, but i see what youre trying to say. The total amount of mass and energy in the universe never changes, but the number of atoms in each element change all the time especially in stars which use fusion to convert hydrogen into almost every element

Dammit, this post is not well thought out and wrong. Delete.

haha you should be thankful that im a big enough nerd to save you from a bunch of trolling had you not deleted this :P

What the fuck? How does this make home page? INB4 people correct me: if you counted up all the protons, neutrons and electrons it wouldn't change. I was just trying to make conservation of matter sound cool

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually, the weak nuclear force causes neutrons to convert into protons by b- emission, and protons into neutrons by b+ emission, so protons, neutrons, and electrons are also not fixed constants

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, you're right if we wanna get technical. But by that part of AP Physics I had already checked out haha

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If you were checked out...how did you know it was taught in your physics class -.-

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There was a chapter on nuclear stuff....and stuff with alpha particles and beta particles and shit....Ah well, last time I'll ever have to take physics so I don't care!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think it got homepaged because people get what you were trying to say that, either that or we're all dumb.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Haha, hopefully it's the first one. I'd like to think amirite is full of somewhat intelligent people

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not necessarily though because of the photon theory, the collision of two photons? No? Mass creation?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, mass and energy are the same. E = m*c^2 as Einstein said.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Exactly, but isn't there a way of creating mass out of energy?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think so. With some emissions (I think it's beta plus) you have an increasing of mass which is taken from the binding energy.
