Humans don't have a free will and are determined to fate/God/nature, amirite?
by Anonymous14 years ago
I'm still undecided on determinism.

It's hard to test this, whatever you may answer, amirite?

Were you forced to post that, or did you choose to?

without choice theres no such thing as morals, responsibilty and ethics

Oh, yes, there is! When a parent raises his/her child, they teach them the good behavior. The rest of the child's life he just does what his parents taught him. Not just because of the education of the parents, but also because when he won't follow the rules of good behavior, the people around him won't accept him and that is something nobody can stand. While you are raised by your parents, you accept the rules of good behavior in order to fit in the group. You just have to. You need other people in order ro survive.

humans aren't the machines of some so-called "higher power".
We have thoughts and feelings and the ability to think for ourselves, so we are we the robots of some god or entity that not all of us believe in anyway?

Apollo- haha got a point

I was told, and I beleive that God gives us free will. Though that was a nice way to start a controversy (No unfriendliness intended).

I'm Presbyterian and people think that means I believe in straight up predetermination, I actually believe that humans have the power to make choices for themselves, though god forsees and knows what we will choose long before it happens. Presbyterianism is about interpretation, not literal command, of the bible, that god is all knowing and forgiving, and that everyone goes to heaven because god forgives before you ask for forgiveness.

I get this lecture every single day in Biology.

Tell that to my catechist. The point is (for the religious), God knows everything, right? Since he knows us so well, he knows the choices that we will make. Therefore, we're still making the choices, he just knows us well enough to know what we choose.

So God is not doing anything... just watching... And let us make all the mistakes we can, being led by our dangerously free free will? Like He's a visitor in a zoo. We do whatever we want (not being forced by God) just because we CAN?
by Anonymous14 years ago
God gave us free will because he didnt want a bunch of robots praising him all the time. He wanted us to CHOSE to love and praise him, hoping that we would and he would know that we truly love him.
