+306 It's nice when the authors of textbooks have a sense of humor, amirite?

Don't know if you're familiar, but I thought Thomas Bailey was pretty funny. He's a historian who wrote my A.P U.S. History textbook.

I was actually thinking about the writer of my Psychology textbook junior year of HS. He mentioned "Psychoceramics (the study of crackpots)" on one page and then on the next page explained that that page was actually written on April Fool's Day and, sadly, psychoceramics does not exist.

Wow, that's so funny! Bailey had a funny way of describing each President. He described President Harrison as an "amiable boob." There are even facebook groups about it! Some quotes: To say that America, with some French aid, defeated Britain is like saying, "Daddy and I killed the bear" "Babies went unborn as pinched budgets and sagging self-esteem wrought a sexual depression in American bedrooms" "Tickle the soil with a hoe, and it will laugh a harvest."

For the first time in my life, I kind of want to read a History textbook. Weird.

I know! We had tons of hw (since it was AP), and those chapters were long and grueling. Without the humor, I don't think I'd have been able to do it, lol. The crackpot thing was hilarious, though! Reading that I'd probably have thought, "Is this real?"

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The son, I think, based on the order.

I'm in AP US right now and we have that book. Now I'm actually excited. I already remember him saying something about the land not being fertile but the people sure were.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Haha! You should also count how many times he compares war to orgies.

I think the French would be the father. Without them the Americans would not have won.

"The hypothalamus is responsible for the "four F's": feeding, fleeing, fighting, and reproduction."

My AP US book had this: "But if the Pilgrims had quickly secured themselves a safe place in the wilderness, what followed was hardly all cranberries and drumsticks."

Was your psychology book written by David Myers? Because he wrote my psych book for my HS class and had a great sense of humor
