-133 In politics, "independent" is just another word for "indecisive", amirite?

As Rush Limbaugh puts it, independents sit back and refuse to make a decision or take a stance, then once a majority starts forming, they run to join it. Very true indeed.

Except that's not true at all.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, it is very true.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

How is it true?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Because it's exactly what they do. You have "bandwagon" right in your name; I don't see why this is a surprise to you.

Just because Rush Limbaugh says something, that doesn't make it true. He is ridiculously biased.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That doesn't make it automatically untrue when he says something. And he's right. Independents are simply people who are not strong enough to form their own opinions, so they wait until a majority forms and then join up with it.

I've always thought of independents as people whose political beliefs as a whole do not match up to any particular party. For example, a candidate might be anti-gun and pro-public option but also be pro-life and pro-death penalty. He can't say he's really "with" either party because his ideas agree with one and disagree with the other, and vice versa. So he runs as an independent.

Independents aren't strong enough to form their own opinions? Most republicans and democrats blindly follow their respective parites with no question of their own beliefs.
