+181 Aliens are usually portrayed as being somewhat humanoid (either in looks, language capacity, or both) but that's not really accurate because they would have evolved on a completely different planet. amirite?

Humanoid creatures could have evolved on another planet...the whole universe is governed by the same laws of physics

I think Star Trek explained that away with some law of planets about how all life-sustaining planets are very similar and so have to have similar requirements for evolution. Or something like that. I don't know, it made sense when the character said it.

But couldn't a "life" form that is completely different from our own (for example, doesn't contain cells) evolve somewhere different? Could evolution in it's early stages be in process on planets like Venus, but be evolving creatures so completely different from ours that they don't have anything like the same requirements?
