Why do people ask "how are you" period? If people were to answer that question truthfully then we would get nothing done due to the fact that everybody would be to busy crying, spilling their feelings out.

I don't know how I feel about that. Many people are too inept at expressing themselves. PS, I also hear this social quirk is the subject of much musing among Europeans.

I know people have problems with expressing themselves,what I meant was that the question "How are you" is a pointless question because people never answer it truthfully. If people were to answer it honestly, a lot of baggage would come out which would open up floods of emotions. Hasn't their ever been a time when someone asked you that question and you said "fine" but really you felt really depressed that day? That's what I meant by my last comment (If that makes sense or helps support what I said).

Perhaps people would answer it truthfully/completely if the question still meant anything.

@18830 (ZuRG): True, People ask that question like they are saying hello or something. Same thing with love, People say that word like it's easy as a breath of fresh air. That is a very strong word and you have to mean it. Same thing with hate it's like they don't have that original meaning anymore...I don't know...just a personal opinion.
