+286 A fetus is pretty much just a parasite: An organism that lives in or on another organism (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host's expense. amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

except you invited it in, its not really harmful/deadly like any other parasite, and eventually it comes out as a human...so no

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Tapeworms are parasites that some people invite in

by Anonymous 12 years ago

you all can disagree all you want but science says no, children aren't parasites, sorry.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not all parasites are harmful.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not all parasites are harmful or deadly and there is nothing in the definition of a parasite that says it can't be human.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Except a parasite is an organism that survives like that. A "fetus" is a stage of life, it's not a parasite it's whole life. Unless it grows up to become some sort of vampire. Then I guess it would be a parasite its whole life

by Anonymous 12 years ago

there is nothing in the deifnition of parasite that says the parasite has to be a parasite it's whole life

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But calling an organism a parasite is implying it always was, is, and always will be a parasite. Otherwise, the correct wording would be "is acting like a parasite" or something like that.

Abortions for all!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Very well, no abortions for anyone.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

i guess all of us were parasites at one point then O_O

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Totally leaving religion out of it, science says "uhhhm NO"...rather emphatically.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

but parasites live in an organism of ANOTHER species. not the same one

by Anonymous 12 years ago

not according to the definition of parasite

by Anonymous 12 years ago

parasite: an organism that lives on or in an organism of another species, known as the host, from the body of which it obtains nutriment.

A fetus is NOT A PARASITE. Because it's the same species as it's mother obviously. It might have parasite like characteristics, but that does NOT make it a parasite.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

a parasite doesnt have to be a different species, according to my definition, the first definition on google. i really don't understand why a fetus is not a parasite.

http://www.prochoiceactionnetwork-canada.org/articles/fetus-focus-fallacy.shtml read the paragraph exactly half way down the page that starts with "ultimately"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/parasite see how i got my definition from a dictionary..not a pro life website.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

it's not a definition that I sent in that link. it's a scholarly article. sheesh.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

my apologies D:

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Are you seriously trying to support the idea that a fetus is a parasite? I'm pretty sure even the author of this post meant it as a joke.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No I didn't the fetus is a parasite.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

lol, take high school biology.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ladies and gentlemen, the beauties of pregnancy!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

True, true. A living organism.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So are kids. And my girlfriend. And my roommates. God I'm such a tool...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Logically, the woman's body should be attacking the fetus, but instead, it nourishes it and even sacrifices itself for it. Result of natural selection I suppose.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually, the immune system would kill the fetus--and does, in most miscarried babies--but the fetus usually disguises itself as part of the uterus wall.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

As my uncle once said "A fetus is a collection of cells living off your body's nutrients. Like a tumor"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well this makes my Tokophobia that much worse.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's funny because I know you just Googled it.
