+223 If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around to here it, it still makes a sound. The amount of people present does not affect whether a tree makes a sound when it falls, amirite?

What if it doesn't? What if our presence affects it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Our presence affects everything around us because we all emit energy in a form of vibrations invisible to the naked eye, yet it's still there. Our thoughts are therefore very powerful too, not just our actions. If you're thinking positively, you attract more positive things into your life, and you're a pessimist, you're more likely to attract negative things to yourself.

Of course it does. It still makes vibrations, and vibrations make sounds. :P

It makes sound waves. It does not make sound. Sound is sound waves being captured in the ear and interpreted by the brain.

Thank you! If there are no organisms around to hear the sound, it merely stays as a vibration of molecules, and the sound wave is not absorbed.

Actually it is exactly the other way around. Sound waves = sound, sound waves being captured in the ear and interpreted by the brain = sound waves being captured in the ear and interpreted by the brain... Your dense if you seriously think that sound waves isn't sound. So therefore OP is right.

Actually, I learned in sixth grade that the answer is no, it will not make a sound. However, if you have a legitimate argument as to why it would, please feel free to tell us. We are open to criticism, as that is how scientists compare data with others, but insulting the person himself and then not giving your own argument keeps us from knowing what error we made in our logic.

How is no one else appalled that the OP said "here it" and not "hear it" I mean what the hell is the world coming to...also John_Smith is right, the waves are there but are not sound until someone hears it.

Damn it! I hate typos, they're fucking embarrassing. Oh well, hopefully a mod can correct it.

Put a damn microphone by tree. Is it sound only when playing back the audio? No, you tards...sound is sound. Try thinkng about supersonic if you really want to mess yourself up

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The microphone, however, would be absorbing the sound waves and vibrations, so your example would not exactly be able to be applied to the situation.

What if the tree fell on a beaver?

by Anonymous 13 years ago
