+293 It's annoying when people use the word legit... especially when they use it incorrectly. It's just a shortened word for legitimate so use it that way. amirite?

This is predictable but... I legit understand you!

No, that's not the correct definition: le·git    /ləˈdʒɪt/ Show Spelled [luh-jit] Show IPA Informal . –adjective 1. legitimate. 2. (of a singing voice) trained in a classical or operatic tradition. 3. having such a singing voice. -- It's slang for "legitimate", so dictionary.com added it When I checked it about a month or two ago, number 1 didn't show up. The reason it's not spell-checked is because of definitions 2 and 3, not 1. You're welcome. [Sorry, "legit" is one of my pet peeves]

Too legitimate to quit!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This may be a stupid question, but how else do people use it?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

People are like, "Oh my god, those shoes are so LEGIT!" But it doesn't really make sense

This term spread likw wildfire in my school. "I'm hungry...no, like legit, I could eat a hero whole." SO annoying

I don't just agree with you, I like legit agree with you.

Semi-random, but I was borrowing some exam review packet from this girl and she spelled illegitimate "illigidimaet". I'm a little worried that she graduated. Sorry, it was just really bothering me.

Yeah, well cool is just a word for mildly cold, but people don't always use that "correctly" either. The same goes for all modern slang words of similar meanings, such as epic, sick, and sweet. Not all words are used for their exact dictionary definition. The English language is constantly evolving. It is entirely possible, and likely, that these slang definitions will be transformed into additional, official dictionary definitions in the near future.

The school T-shirts for next year at my high school say legit on them and it kind of annoys me. But at least they didn't put the word epic on it, then I would've exploded.

...walk like a legyption.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Legit formed from the slang term "real" It is not meant to be necessarily a shortened form of legitimate. It is used to to say something is cool and is therefore a correct use as ass is a correct way to denote a butt.
