+311 You can tell if someone's homeschooled, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Although I understand what you mean, this post isn't exactly true. It is true that nearly everyone that is home-schooled is awkward, but there are many awkward kids in public schools as well. A more correct (but less understandable) post would be "you can tell when someone isn't home-schooled".

Actually, I was going to put that, but I decided it made little sense and this one was more understandable.

I'm homeschooled, AND I'M OFFENDED

I think all you guys here are missing that homeschooled people tend to lack a lot of education and are very dumb in contrast to the average population—which is amazing 'cause the average population is very inept already.

lolwut? From my personal experience, homeschooled people tend to be a lot smarter than the average kid at public school.

Adding to the comments in defense of homeschoolers, most of them aren't as backwards and unsociable as people might think. Many of my friends are homeschooled, and they're popular, smart, and friendly, with attractive personalities. I respect them because they tend to be deeper, more interesting individuals overall. Although, as with any group of people, you do occasionally run into some weirdos . :P

I just became homeschooled last year after ten and a half years of public school. I believe that was sufficient training to maintain my cover wary

Is homeschooling better than public schooling? I'm not sure of the pros and cons and I'm considering homeschool.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Depends on how smart your parents are.

Well, I only did it because I didn't like how the school was handling my service dog, and I only had the service dog because I was refusing to be homeschooled in the first place and it was supposed to make it possible for me to keep going. So yeah, that kinda backfired. I'm probably not the best person to ask for advice on this one.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

forgive me for asking, but what was the specific reason for your service dog? Your school should have been able to deal with your needs and requests and it sounds like they weren't being met and that sounds like a lack of administration on their part. Sometimes homeschooling really is better.

I'm not really asking advice on reasons for being homeschooled, just what it's like.

I was home schooled for middle school but was in public school for elementary and high school. Academically, home school helps a lot if you have the motivation to learn by reading textbooks and stuff. It allows you to go at your own pace; faster for things you understand and slower on stuff you find difficult. Also there is more freedom in what you learn. Nevertheless, you will need to have to motivate yourself to work if you want to get anything out of it. If you can motivate yourself, the biggest con is your social life. I pretty much had one friend outside of family while I was being home schooled. If you choose home schooling,I would suggest finding some sport, club, church, or other activity where you can connect with people.

I was for a year. NEVER AGAIN

Well...I'm pretty social, but if I start talking about my home life people are like, "...you're homeschooled, aren't you?" Because I talk about feeding the chickens, milking the cow, climbing trees, super-gluing my sibling's cuts closed, making jelly, jam, candles, and soap, knitting, sewing, baking, etc., etc... Apparently for 13-year-old girls, this is not 'normal' XD So, I agree, for MOST homeschoolers, you can tell. Then again, I have some friends who you'd never guess in a million years that they're homeschooled. (Or maybe we're just smarter...that's proven, ya know...>.>) JK, JK...:)
