+405 It's annoying when celebrities ask people to donate to charities. They're the ones with all the money! amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They do give, but they don't have an unlimited amount of money to spend, besides they're doing it so people will learn to be more responsible for someone other than themselves. It shows what's wrong with people, when a celebrity has to endorse good morals in order for people to also do it. That (your) ideology is also flawed.

Yes, because only rich people have the ability to give to the needy and the fact that they are asking you to do so means that they themselves aren't doing a thing. I'm sick of people thinking that people with more money should take care of them just because they have more money. If they want to help the less fortunate- wonderful. If they don't, we have no right to whine about it. It's their money.

I agree that they can do whatever they want with their money, but i think the poster meant that he doesn't want to be asked to donate if they are not willing to do so themselves. Plus the fact that most celebrities get paid extortionate amounts of money for not really doing all that much, whilst most average people work their asses off in jobs where they get little or no recognition for barely enough money and then they are being asked to give it to someone else.

How do you know they AREN'T givign money to the charity? Just because they ask other people to give doesn't mean they're not giving. And if you really want famous people to stop making money, stop watching their movies, listening to their music and watching their tv shows.

I'm not saying they don't give money. I'm saying that they shouldn't be begging me for canned food when they could donate 2% of their yearly income and equal the donation of my entire city.

They aren't begging, they're just trying to help. Sure, they don't need tons of expensive crap, but it's still better if everyone gives than if just one celebrity donates. When they support charities, it's not only about money, it's about raising awareness for the cause. Some people just won't give a crap or remember the commercial unless someone famous is there telling them about cancer, or autism, or specific foundations. If more people know about a cause, more people will want to do something about it and it spreads.

Exactly. I have no problem giving to charity, but if the cause is so important to these people, why are they spending millions of dollars on their house, car, and food instead of giving it to these charities and buying modest things? They want a can of food from me, but if they took all the cash out of their wallet and went and bought food with it, they'd never miss the money and they would feed 20X more people than I could.

Me either, i wasn't saying that they don't give to charities either, i was just saying that that's what one of the guys comments was saying. The thing is, even the commercials shouldn't be being made, as they cost A LOT of money too, they should just give that to the charities. I'm also not saying i don't want them to make as much money as they do, i just want them to give a larger proportion back than what they do, and to not get paid by the charities for appearing in commercials. They are all on talk shows so often they could just endorse the charities on there, or actually go out and do something and the newspapers and tv stations will pick up on it and show the public that they are actually doing something rather than just whining for my money whilst they are in their £2000000 houses.

hi atheistic . i have said this for a long time that "celebs go on at us to donate " and then they keep on buying mansions worth millions and living it up and knowing that millions in uk and europe are struggeling very badly .in my opinion they should all be ashamed . someone said they can do with their money what they want . i would of course agree but because they keep on at us . celebs appeals on tv : they want to raise money for ... if its importent to them " why ask us yet again " if i had the money i would get on with it without asking anyone . people got annoyed with james caan ex dragons den because he appealed for money from uk because of the floods . people said he is from there and he is a multimillionaire and he should give and plenty .

Ew, a Republican.

what's wrong with thinking people should be able to do what they want with the money they earned themselves?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That doesn't mean that they don't give any themselves...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They do, they're just trying to raise awareness to the cause and promote it. It's a good use of their fame!
