Your political views don't fit perfectly into either the Democrat or Republican category. amirite?
by Anonymous12 years ago
No, they don't because not everyone here is American. :o

There's other countries than America?

Liar.

I think most democracies have Democrats and Republicans, or something similar.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Canada: Liberal and Conservative.
Britain: Liberal and Conservative.
Australia: Liberal and Conservative.
You guys are the only major English-speaking country that's different.
Which goes back to my original point. :)

"You guys?"
Anyway, everyone knows what the post means.

America also has a party we call "liberal" being the Democrats, and a party we call "conservative" being the Republicans. However they are both hybrids now; Republicans want more government control on social issues and less on economic ones, while Democrats want to be socially permissive and economically strict. It's a bit unbalanced, which is why I think Americans are becoming disillusioned and disenfranchised.

I know that Democratics are equivalent to say, Canada's Liberals and Rebuplicans to the Conservatives.
However, even if they're similar, they're considered different types of parties.
The American government is different from (again) say, Canada's. The differences lie more than just in the names given for things: Prime Minister vs. President, etc.
American society is capitalistic. Canadian is socialistic.
Another major difference is that America only has two parties to choose from. (Hence why it is difficult to fit your beliefs in either or.) But Canada (and other countries) have multiple parties to choose from. For example, the NDP in Canada is somewhere between Liberal and Conservative.
Anyway, I just wanted to be difficult in pointing out that this post only applies to Americans. ;)

We have plenty of parties to choose from, the problem is that we don't. Call it learned helplessness.
I respect your right to be a pain in my ass. <3

Australia's two major parties are Labor and Liberal.
Labor is the more liberal party and the Liberal party is more conservative.
by Anonymous12 years ago
That depends on your definition of liberal and conservative, but from how you put it it seems like you and I agree on those definitions. Conservative being less government and liberal being more? In America people think conservative and Republican are synonymous, as well as liberal and Democrat.

If you decide who you agree with before hearing about the issue, then you're an idiot.
