-196 You would rather feel dumb in a Honors class than be in a normal class and feel like a genius, amirite?

This is my exact situation. I'm not doing terribly well in my AP history class, but I'm easily at the top of my physical science (dumb people science) class. And I like being mediocre in APUSH a lot better than being amazing at physical science.

It depends, because if you're surrounded by dumbasses I wouldn't want to be in a class like that, but I also wouldn't want to be so far behind everyone else in my class. Also, it looks better to colleges if you're getting an A in a normal class than getting a C in honours.

They look to see if you challenged yourself, not just taking the easy classes.

As long as it's college prep it doesn't really matter. If it's AP then you get credit for it too. My counselor told me to stick with what I know I can accomplish well instead of drowning in something just because it's a higher level.

I have high Bs in my chem class right now, which theoretically isn't that bad, but I sure feel dumb. But I deal with it because, for each honors class I'm in, I get an extra .5 points on my GPA, which is very much worth it.

At my school, for honors classes, we multiply the GPA by 1.1 to make up for the difficulties in the class.

How I feel during class hours doesn't matter too much to me- I appreciate any class where I learn well.

This post just proves how people are move concerned with their image than with their academic prowess.

There is no point being in an honors class if you can't handle the work. You're probably going to fail if you don't understand the material... How's that for academic prowess?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I assumed that the post implied that both classes could be handled and that there was a choice as to which one to take. Being the dumbest kid in a specific class doesn't mean you can't handle the work, it just means other kids handle it better. There was no mention of failing the honours class.

There is always kids who don't understand the class. If you are below everyone else, you are one of those kids. If you feel dumb, I assume there is a reason for it.

No, this post proves that some people like to take careful consideration before jumping into a difficult course. They're weighing the pros and cons of struggling in an honors class or getting by easier in a normal class. We would all be better people if we thought through our decisions carefully, like the OP and others who posted comments. It has little to do with image.

Personally for my sake, I would way rather be doing honors. Whenever we get in groups, I find myself worrying a lot less as to whether or not my group members are actually going to do their work or if they will understand what is going on. If there are smarter kids in your class, you can ask them for help and even improve your grades through that process. Also, colleges like to see honors. However, I can't argue with being the smartest kid in my classes. There is really only one class where that applies.
