+183 Obama putting a tax on Christmas trees is a dick move, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why? Should he also not put a tax on candy canes? Or, by your logic, should he not put a tax on valentines day candies? Or halloween candies? What a dick move, trying to gain that 1% more money to help YOUR country. I just don't understand what you mean by saying it's a dick move? Taxes are a necessity to making the government be capable of doing what it needs to do.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

ahhh i knew this would attract the overly political person.. it's just a dick move cause it's a christmas tree! i mean candy is one thing, but christmas trees are loved by nearly everyone. this isn't against taxes in general so stop your insults buddy.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not political, for one. I just don't understand what a Christmas tree has to do with Obama being a dick. I could see where you're coming from if you said he was taxing paper bags, or straws or something like that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What about menorahs? Or any other religious-related object? Do those not deserve to be taxed as well? Christmas trees are NOT loved by nearly everyone. I hope it doesn't come as a major shock to you that not everyone is Christian. I thank Obama for taking one secularism one step further.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Still, there should at least be a tax on most holiday items. Also, not everyone is Christian, but Christmas has turned into a Hallmark holiday.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I was saying that there should be a tax on all holiday items. And you're kind of right about Christmas turning into a Hallmark holiday. As an atheist, I celebrate Christmas. But Jews, for example, won't. Hanukkah is around the same time as Christmas and they obviously celebrate that instead for religious reasons. If menorahs are taxed and Christmas trees aren't, that's pretty much a major middle finger to the Jews and anyone else that doesn't celebrate Christmas.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Atheists shouldn't call themselves atheists if they openly celebrate christmas, lol. I think the overall point of the post, in which the poster assumed we all already knew about the 15cent fake christmas tree tax, is that the 15 cent fee is BS.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's not like I go to the Christmas tree and pray. I don't want to be deprived of a holiday during the Christmas season, so I celebrate Christmas.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well then it's sort of not fair isn't it? You get to celebrate and have fun but still don't have to go to church and pray.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You can do the same if you'd like.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You can be an atheist and still celebrate Christmas. You just celebrate the secular traditions and not the religious ones.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

yeah those too. I meant all holiday items. sorry i didnt word that. chill out and take a deep breath

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But there are taxes on menorahs. But you only care if they tax your religion, right? Anyways, everything should be taxed that would normally be taxed. Whether it is a religious item or not shouldn't play a role in whether it is taxed or not. If all religious items weren't taxed, we couldn't truly claim we have a secularist government.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Seriously, what type of evil person doesn't like Christmas trees? They're pretty, they smell nice, they have cute little ornaments on them. You don't have to be christian to like Christmas trees, they don't have anything to do with Jesus or christian theology anyway. Hating Christmas trees is just like hating birthday presents.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I didn't say anyone hated Christmas trees. I said not everyone loved Christmas trees. Many trees smell nice and many trees are pretty. Is someone evil if they don't like all those trees?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

this isn't about religion haha. so don't pull that card. sorry i didnt add any other holiday item he taxed. i only heard about christmas trees. stop being so negative, speaking of which, you could use some christmas cheer yourself. "the best way to spread christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Do you read every comment that is structured and doesn't have any "lol"s in it as negative? You realize that holiday items are all religious items, right? So don't claim this post isn't about religion. Maybe you think that all holiday items shouldn't be taxed, but that still supports religion.

You need Jesus mate, you sound a bit unhappy.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not. I just get pissed off by stupid Christians like you that feel their religion is supreme and the only way to find happiness.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Calm down mate no need to get angry over the internet, I'm just tryin' to help you find true happiness because you sound a bit depressed that's all.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No need to attempt to convert people over the internet. It's annoying enough when people try to convert me in real life...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Calm down mate! No need to get angry about it, I'm only tryin' to help ya that's all. You're sort of being mean and that's not very nice.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Adopting Christianity would not help me. Nor do I need help. By saying Jesus is what I need to be happy, you're implying that religion is required for happiness. You're the one being inconsiderate, not me.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Mate, you're being awfully mean. I think you need to take a look at psalm 85:2 which states "You forgave the iniquity of your people; you covered all their sin." We all need the bible at times like these, but to be honest you're being a bit rude about it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Are you seriously still trying to convert me...? What the hell is wrong with you, dude?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Calm down mate no need to get angry about it. I'm only tryin' to help you and you're being quite rude. I'd like an apology, thank you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not giving you an apology for being rude after you shoved your faith down my throats multiple times after I made it clear that I didn't want to be converted. How about giving me an apology for claiming that religion is the only way to be happy?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No mate cause you see I was only trying to do you a favor and you were sort of being rude. So could you apologize now? Thank you. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. - Philipians 4:13

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No. Forcing religion onto someone isn't doing them a favor. That is merely an annoyance.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No mate. I think you'll believe one day. Christ is the way to go, Christ or die! Okay I understand mate you're a bit shy and you don't want to come out and show your love for Jesus, that's okay. But why do you believe in Satan? That's just wrong... And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” - Luke 12:15

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm a bit shy and therefore don't want to show my love for Jesus? Are you fucking kidding me? That's your logic for why I'm an atheist? If I was shy, I would go streamline and be what the majority of the population is: a Christian. And no, I will never be a Christian. In fact, my atheism will only become stronger as science makes more discoveries. By the way, quit copying Bible passages like they actually mean anything to me. If I don't believe in God, do you really think I give one fuck about what the Bible says? Guess what? Not everyone is a Christian. If you can't accept that maybe you should kill yourself so you can go be with your precious God.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well that's not very nice now is it? But mate, I can see that you like Jesus because that's all you talk about. I'm not getting angry at you for it I'm just sayin' one day you'll realize that lookin' cool in front of ya friends and hating god and being satanic isn't the right way to go and you need to just follow christ mate. That's all. Now I do feel a bit offended and if you could please apologize I'd appreciate it. Thank you. “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” - John 14:18

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Do you not realize what an atheist is? I don't hate God, I don't believe in God. You're still trying to convert me. Please stop...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Thanks for taking the bait, mate. It's been a pleasure. http://ctrlv.in/46192

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Aww, damn it. I suspected trolling but there are so many people actually like that...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

We tax presents, which are better than the tree. Why not add a 15¢ fee for a tree that you use once a year?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's a fifteen cent tax on real christmas trees. That he's giving back to the christmas tree growers. Although I don't understand why the tree people just dont raise the christmas tree price. And since you only buy christmas trees once a year, I doubt people would notice the extra fifteen cents if no one knew about the tax.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Holy sweet baby Jesus, OBAMA IS NOT TAXING CHRISTMAS TREES! It is a FEE (not a tax) of 15cents requested by the National Christmas Tree Association to fund research programs and marketing campaigns to promote the purchase of real trees. The White House approved it, like they have to other similar campaigns, under both Republican and Democrat administrations, but they're now revising it, because people crying that Obama worse than the Grinch and wants to ruin Christmas forever.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm glad you shared this.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Also, Obama does not have the power to tax things; only Congress can tax things.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

yeah but it's funnier to just put the blame on the president

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Obama should tax you for every breath you take. This way at least someone could make money off your stupidity.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

As a Libertarian, I hate taxes but I could care less about Christmas trees because I don't plan on buying a new one every year like some people apparently do.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes. Just like almost everything else that you buy. ono

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's 15 cents on a tree, and the money goes to help Christmas tree growers in support of more fresh Christmas trees. It's really not outrageous.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why can't the Chirstmas tree people get money from selling Christmas trees? Why do they need the government to do anything?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

because women ruin everything
