+134 Man creating God is quite an impressive thought too, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not really. It's nothing more than an imaginary friend with super powers.

I think it's more than just that. I'm an atheist but I believe in the power that the belief in God has. God is a fantastic example of the human mind.

That's pretty much what I said. Think about a little kid with his imaginary friend. He'll do anything he can to keep that friend safe.

But I think people create God to make Him make them feel safe.

I like the civilizations (Norse, Greeks etc.) that had multiple Gods, Imo they tend be more interesting then the singular ones, more story and depth to it.

Egypt had the coolest Gods if you ask me.

Anubis tends to be my personal favorite =D

I always liked Anubis and Horrus. Bastet was cool too.

Anthropomorphic gods always kick ass.

I liked the Greek gods, because I love the stories.

I've always thought the Aztec gods were the coolest. Chalmecatecuchtlz is my favorite but Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli is a close second.

The brain is crazy. If you tell a lie, that you know at the time is a lie, but you keep repeating it constantly it will get to the point where you dont even know its a lie anymore and will take it as truth.

So you're suggesting that every religious person starts out telling themselves a lie until they start to believe it?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not essentially. I was just giving another example of how impressive the human mind is. But I guess if you didnt believe but your family keep force feeing it down your throat, I could see a future where you would just accept it and become religious. I think most religious people are that way because of their parents, because they're scared of death, or because they feel like no one loves them and want to feel the "love" that God gives them.

I think even if it did start out as a story, it's so late in to it now that no one remembers that detail. So after like two thousand years it's become something you don't need to convince yourself about as much as it's something you hope for. I completely agree though that parents play a huge factor in to what people believe. My parents raised my brother and I in a secular environment. There was of course the comments that implied their religious beliefs but they never told us that any religion was right or wrong so we both found our own beliefs instead of mimicking our parents. But I have seen shows about evangelical communities and those kids are so brainwashed it's horrifying.
