+438 In California, thousands of teachers are losing their jobs and fun activities like dances are being cut, especially in my district. It's pretty stupid that my school is getting new desks and an LCD television in every room, amirite?

We have to get rid of an elementary school [we have 3 others] and the parents are complaining. They're recommending job cuts, removing vital extracurricular activities [that some people depend on for scholarships], and cutting the kindergarten school day in half to pay for that school, even though the kids are just going to another school in the district. The problem with cutting the kindergarten day is that now, parents have to rearrange their work schedule to be home for the kids :/

They're cutting a bunch of our classes, firing teachers, and thinking about cutting music and sports. Yet they just built an unnecessay intermediae school...

The construction fund cannot transfer to the staff funds. That's why they have to get rid of teachers- they don't have enough money. However, they do have money set aside for construction, so they might as well spend it. My school is losing a lot of teachers, but we got those Smart Boards in every room because we have a shit-load of money in technology funds.

Is that what it is? My school basically remodeled half of the buildings that no one ever uses (and looked fine without it) but cut classes, including my foreign language. So now I'm taking French 3 as a senior instead of French 4. That's lame that the funds are seperate.

In my district (CA), we don't have enough money to get new desks. We don't even have enough money for paper for the copy machines. Yet somehow, we just redid half of the stands in the football stadium. I have to pay for several of my classes, including chemistry and band, because if we didn't, they wouldn't exist. California's budget is such crap right now and I can't WAIT to get out of here.

There was a little bill we passed a long time ago, when the economy was doing good, that allocated a ridiculous amount of money to pay for facilities updates (new buildings, improving the current buildings, etc.) to schools. We have to use all that money on building stuff, we can't move it to things we actually need, like the person above said. At this point, since we're so far in the hole, we don't have enough money to pay for anything else, so we fire teachers while we're building multi-million dollar science facilities. This is California, our government sucks.
