+348 Being able to think about and remember dreams is an odd concept. How are you able to remember something that never really happened, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't really remember my dreams. I remember the plot points. The other night, I had a dream about a murder. And every time my dream would get to a certain point, it would start over again and I'd be a different person.

Not really. I mean, most movies never actually happened but you can remember them.

You are right, but you still physically see and hear what is going on where in a dream it's just pure thought, but sometimes you can almost clearly looking at someone and hearing what they have to say

But you can see and hear dreams, it's just in your head. Like a book was once in the author's head. When you read a book, you're imagining it and it's also pure thought.

You can see and hear dreams?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

//I// can. I see what I'm doing and where I'm at and who's talking and what their saying. You mean you can't? Are we talking about the same dreams?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Do assume we are talking about the same dreams. But you don't physically see and hear only mentally. If sOmeone covered your ears while you were sleeping would you cease to hear things in your dream?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't know. I never tried.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

When someone is asleep their eyes are typically closed besides the insides of their eye lids do they really "see" anything?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sure-they see their imagination come to life. I have a messed up imagination.

Seems like a good place to jump in. Dreams are literally your brain creating an artificial reality. When you see or hear something, your brain is what interprets the sound or light into what way call hearing and seeing. So your senses just relay the pattern of light or sound waves to your brain, your brain creates the sounds and images. Dreaming is your brain creating these sights and sounds on its own without sesory input, so to answer your question, no you wouldn't cease to hear things. Inception bonus features FTW

I can imagine some sex scene between me and Gwenyth Paltrow that never happened, but be able to think about it?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Dreams are usually your brain's way of handling all the stuff you have hidden in your subconscious so technically you could be dreaming about stuff that did happen to you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There is NO WAY the shit that goes down in my dreams actually happened in even some remote form.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Your logic doesn't make any sense...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The same way you can remember a thought. You don't hear your thoughts or see them or feel or taste or smell them. But you can obviously remember them. I could imagine a monkey shitting out an elephant and remember it even though it never really happened. The human brain is more than capable of remembering something it made.

Of course they are all in your head, but why on earth should that mean they're not real

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I was waiting for this quote

Funny you should say that. A lot of our memories actually aren't real. First of all, when we remember something we aren't just pulling it up like a file. We are actually re-creating it. So when we remember something we often change it, so the things we remember most are actually what we have changed the most about. | Also, we are very good at remembering things. It doesn't mean that these things actually happened. Everyone supposedly remembers where they were when they first heard that that space shuttle crashed. They have recorded interveiws asking people where they were when it happened. Then years later, they ask again and area given a completely different story, yet the person is still sure it happened. They have a clear memory of it. So, yeah. Remembering something doesn't mean it actually happened.

It is still a weird concept.

I almost always remember my dreams but I have a really bad memory for actual events. I can picture my little sister with me when I adopted my first cat but when I adopted the cat she wasn't even born.
