+206 Non-Americans: You know more about America than any American will know about your country, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're saying you know more about our country than we know about your country??

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's probably true. 97% (and that's being gracious) of us can't be bothered to learn about America our own freakin country, let alone someone elses

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But it's not like people where I live (Australia) are particularly worldly, it's because of all the proliferation of American culture through the internet, especially. People don't seem to actively seek out the names of American presidents, but we all would know a few.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Proliferation? I'm American your probably going to have to dumb that comment down. Haha kidding. But seriously, I definitely agree.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

>**Prolife**ration hehe

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Generalized remark is generalized.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I CHALLENGE TO AN AMERICAN HISTORY TRIVIA CONTEST!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ok!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

PSSH. I know Canada SOOOOO well. They live in igloos and ride to school on polar bears. On rare occassions, one of them becomes and internet sensation and is forced down to our country, becoming an even bigger hit when signed to a record label. And they all play hockey.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

We've switched over to snow mobiles since there are over 30 million of us and not over 30 million polar bears left. Ignorance.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Also, their private transportation is kangaroos.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're such a good troll.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I thought that was Australia?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, because how would a kangaroo jump the Berlin Wall?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I see your point.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Confused future-stepdad is confused.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I usually defend America. However, this is very true.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

you defend america because you're stupid

by Anonymous 12 years ago

LOLOLOLOLOL You went through every single one of my comments because you were mad that you're shit at making jokes. It's funny because my intelligence quotient is probably double that of yours. I can comprehend thoughts with ease that your puny brain probably can't even begin to think about. You're just and ignorant dolt with nothing better to do than stalk someone on the internet because they point out how absolutely awful your jokes are.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

actually I came across this post by chance lol

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Seems unlikely.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

not really as I am on amirite mobile and I cannot see a history of comments made, you look awfully foolish right now

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You must use a different mobile than I used.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

ha no, I use the only mobile one. And also, care to mention one of the idea's you can comprehend that my 'puny' brain cannot? I highly doubt you're smarter than me, and the only logical reason you try and flaunt intellect on the internet unprovoked is because you're insecure about your intellect

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Unprovoked? You called me stupid. That's reason enough. You're trying to pretend like you know something about psychology by calling me insecure, but in reality you're talking out of your ass. One such idea would be the beginning and end of time. Being tested at a genius level iq has made me pretty damn secure. Right now I don't have time to deal with an idiot on the internet who can't tell his ass from his elbow. I bid you a good day, sir.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

ha, you honestly think anybody believes you have genius iq? And hahahahahahah you actually think you know anything about the beginning and end of time? Do you even know time isn't a vector? It isn't a recognisable dimension? Go on enlighten us on your amateur knowledge you learnt from a youtube video probably by vsauce, or are you too scared that you've met somebody who will somely destroy any argument you post here? Me 1 - 0 you, ha I just beat a 'genius'

by Anonymous 12 years ago

>calls someone stupid >tries to argue about their intelligence >is wrong >counts it as a win and tells his mother who sticks the conversation up on the fridge

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I beat a genius I beat a genius, who then got his ner friends on amirite to post on my wall, ha I'll take all you nerds on

by Anonymous 12 years ago

>meets someone for the first time >is proven by said person to be an idiot >calls a message a wall post >calls person a nerd >feels clever >forgets that he mentioned he's been banned in his profile

by Anonymous 12 years ago

what so I'm not allowed to call someone a nerd on amirite? So what I've been banned, you think I give a fuck?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

>claims not to give a fuck >decides to advertise it in his profile to show how badass he is >can't follow a list

by Anonymous 12 years ago

where have I advertised it?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

On your profile.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

where.....?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I understand your point, and it's true, minus probably about .01-01% of Americans, considering they may have travelled to your country/ specialize in your culture.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I know enough people that couldn't pass the same citizenship test immigrants have to pass to become an American so I'll say yes, but only on the basis that the dumb ones are usually the loudest which is why they get the most attention.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That doesn't necessarily mean that Americans are ignorant of other cultures. It could easily be explained by the overwhelming presence of American culture and America's geographic location. As someone said above, most non-Americans do not actively seek out information about other cultures -- the American culture is just more visible around the globe than others. And unlike most of the rest of the world, Americans cannot take affordable day trips to other countries unless they live right on the border, so exposure to other places is very limited.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

*any country.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That doesn't mean you're smart, it means America is awesome.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

"Lebanon? Where's that?" "Isn't it in Israel?" "It's an Arab country mainly full of Christians? LOL WUT?" Yes, I've actually been asked these questions before. I once read something on amiwrong, where someone asked "Lebanon? Is that in France?" Oh please someone give me the link to that, I'm too lazy to go and search for it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

http://www.amiwrong.net/9 But Lebanon **is** in France... And the people from there are Lesbians or something like that. Seriously, learn a bit about your own country before you post, you ignoramus. troll

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most Americans are immigrants, so they probably know a lot about their native country. Just wanted to put that out there.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No. Most Americans do not come from other countries. They're parents maybe, but even then of you move from any country to America at a young age you become Americanized

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well the population majority is about to become hispanics, who immigrated over here. And the statistics from the last census showed most came over here in the last 10 or so years. That shows that the other guy is right.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

False. Thats bullshit. I may have been wrong in my comment, so I looked that up before I agreed with you. I know not everyone took the census, but be foreal here there isn't more hispanics who immigrated over here than natural born Americans http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/48000.html

by Anonymous 12 years ago

yeah but your not accounting for all the hispanic people that choose to put "other" or something, the consensus isnt 100% accurate

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I have considered that actually. But even if you combined all the hispanics who didn't take census, plus the ones accounted for and the percent that occupy the other category, I'm sure it does not equal over the amount of whites.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

As of the 2010 Census, Whites accounted for 63.7% of the population and Hispanics/Latinos accounted for 16.3%. There are projections that show that Whites could become a minority somewhere around 2040 to 2050, but they would still be the largest race in America. The only thing you got right was the fact that the Hispanic/Latino community is rapidly growing.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Everyone, when traced back thousands of years, is an immigrant from Africa. That doesn't mean everyone knows lots about Africa.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Please, they probably know more about America than we do ourselves...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most Americans don't even know that much about America. I've met people who didn't know Vermont was a state or thought it was part of Canada, despite that it was the fourteenth state to join the union and it's home to Burton Snowboards and Ben and Jerry's. As someone who has known all the states since I was 7 or 8 and all the capital cities since I was 10 or 11 (though I'm a little rusty now on the capitals), I find this pathetic.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Whenever my family goes on vacation in the U.S. and we tell someone we're from Delaware, at least once per trip we get a response along the lines of "Oh cool. What state is that in?". It's funny and terrible at the same time

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What the fuck is a "Vermont"? troll

by Anonymous 12 years ago

While I agree there are some mega-ignorant Americans, there are dumb people all over the world, not just in America.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah.. I don't really know as much about America as I probably should. But I do stay pretty up to date on stuff about my own state. Now, in defense of all Americans please tell me what good is it to know the capital of every state? Why do we need to learn so much about our country when we could just look it up anyway?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Or other places in the world for that matter...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah! Why do we even have to know anything for that matter when we can just have Siri look it up for us?!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Some stuff is handy to know, but other stuff is just useless information that we would only need if we were going to be on a game show.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, I'll agree with you. But it's always better to know than not to know

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What? I was too busy enjoying FREEDOM to hear you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Hmm. I thought Canada, England, and Australia were free as well.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This isn't entirely as accurate any more, but it used to be that when you told an American you're from Finland, 80% of them would go "And which state is that in?" and yeah... The only thing people generally know about Finland is metal music. Some people may also know about Nokia, but most people seem to think it's Japanese or something...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My best friend is Finnish, and she's from Nokia (the town not the phone brand) :D Just thought I'd share that useless information with you. But the more confusing part is that we both live in China. Though I suppose because China is in the news a lot, most Americans would at least know that it's a country...they still give me funny looks when I say I'm from China though, with me being blonde and all.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I imagine they would, yeah :p are you Chinese-born or did you just move there?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Nah not born here, but I've lived here most of my life

by Anonymous 12 years ago

so you still consider yourself Chinese? yeah, makes sense

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They probably know more about America than we Americans do.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

As a History Major (European History to be exact) I would have to disagree with this. And, to be frank, I am sick of people assuming that all American's are stupid, overweight, dumbasses. I am proud to be an American, and I'm proud to also be intelligent. I don't think that all Australian people live in the middle of some desert with a pet kangaroo, so don't generalize me or my country.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's called a joke. You don't hear Australians and Canadians getting all butthurt about the jokes we make. You're the reason everyone thinks Americans are overly sensitive too. You know about European history, that doesn't mean you know a lot about other countries.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, we love the stereotypes about us living in igloos and riding polar bears to school.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Me tinks me detects some sarcasm? Or no?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

1. This post isn't a joke 2. There are a shit ton of Americans who would kick your ass in a contest about world knowledge (like this chick)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

1. I meant people who say Americans are stupid, overweight, dumbasses are joking. Not that the post was. 2. Because you know how much I know about the world. 3. I never said anything about me knowing anything about the world.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

1. This post is basically saying Americans are ignorant, and it's not a joke. Sure, there are some pretty hilarious jokes about Americans being dumb and what not, but there are also times (like this) when people generalize in all seriousness. 2. A European history major knows more about the world than the average person in this world (or amirite user if you wan that to be the population). Therefore, I can assume in most cases she would kick your ass in a world knowledge contest. Also, even if you were crazy smart, there would still be a bunch of people in America who are smarter than you. I don't care how good you are at something, you're not the best in the world.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

1) I DID NOT SAY THE POST WAS A JOKE. FOR THE SECOND TIME. HOPEFULLY THIS BEING IN CAPS GET THAT ACROSS TO YOU. 2) I NEVER CLAIMED TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING, FOR THE SECOND TIME, AND IT IS IS IRRELEVANT.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

CapedCrusader- Thank you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My post wasn't intended to bash Americans, it was just an interesting observation - I was just commenting on how Americanized the world has become. I didn't say that was a good thing or a bad thing, or that it implied Americans are ignorant - it was just an observation. But yes, I did make a generalisation by saying "any American". It was just to make a point, but if anyone was offended, I apologise.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Thank you. I understand where you're coming from, I suppose I just took it the wrong way. And it's not that I can't take a good joke about dumb Americans, because we do have some pretty ignorant people here, I just hate that people actually think we are a country full of morons

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This may be because America is younger than many other countries, and although we do spend time in school studying American History (or similar things), we spend more time studying other countries because there is more to know which we may not be able to learn once we leave school.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not to point out the obvious, but that is because America is the most important country in the world. Sorry if I offended anyone, but from actual statistics, it is pretty obvious.
