+117 Americans: you thought Boxing Day was a day dedicated to the sport of boxing, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Wo wo wo! Do Americans not have boxing day? :O

by Anonymous 12 years ago

nope hehe

by Anonymous 12 years ago

it was. people are insane lmao

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Even though it's not an "official" American holiday, my neighbors still have a party. It's where everyone brings their left overs from Christmas, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Here, in Canada, it's just like Black Friday but it's the day after Christmas. Except now Boxing Week sales have become really popular too. It's a good holiday if you like huge discounts and freezing. It's probably celebrated differently in other places.

....... I feel dumb lawlz

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I just didn't know what the heck it was

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I thought it was where everyone buys a giant television, throws it out, and uses the box and IMAGINATION to imagine they were race car drivers.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

We should make this the purpose of Boxing Day, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I have never heard of it. What is it?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

a bank holiday or something in Europe. or maybe it's just England?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sounds...fun?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

see yay_im_wrong's comment above ^

by Anonymous 12 years ago

THAT is something I can get into.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No offense man but you always have the worst profile picture for this website

by Anonymous 12 years ago

hahahhahaha

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What do you mean?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's basically where everything is on sale. The decrease of price is tremendous. I always assumed Americans had Boxing Day as well. At least, that's how it is in Canada. I'm sure it's the same in Europe...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

We have Black Friday, which is where all the crazy money-saving people in America gather together in great masses to buy Christmas gifts at low prices. That's like the Boxing Day you're talking about.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Damn, that's a lot more useful than having it after Christmas....

by Anonymous 12 years ago

We celebrate it here in South Africa too (as do most ex and current common wealth nations.) Basically its just an extra public holiday where we meet up with family that we missed on xmas and eat all the leftovers.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I thought it was a reference to the amount of boxes left over from the day before.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

or boxing all your christmas decorations up

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Thank you so much for that, I felt so dumb because I thought I was the only one who thought that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Even as a British kid when i was young I thought that too XD

by Anonymous 12 years ago

since when do americans not have boxing day

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Since forever...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I can remember reading about Boxing Day in Harry Potter and then asking my dad what it was and he told me.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Harry Potter is the only reason Americans know that Great Britain exists.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Can someone tell me why that comment is getting voted down?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

it shouldnt be. it's awesome

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're awesome

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Cause it's wrong

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I first heard about it in Harry Potter too!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

weird my Canadian friend always said he hated boxing day but i assumed it was for boxing (sports) wth o.o

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Basicly, originally (victorian times) somone would come around the houses with a box and peeps would put money in for people who didnt get presents. But now it's just a bank holiday were everyone can relax after christmas(which includes eating all the left overs :P) Its nothing special but just a nice extra break :)
