I see where you were going, but the Christmas tree was a Germanic tradition used to help people understand the trinity by using the three "corners" of the tree. The triangular shape was meant to represent the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

I suppose we could. It does make quite a bit of sense, but I think that the pines were the trees that were readily available when the tradition started.
