+214 I'm not the only one that wonders what the Beatles were smoking when they wrote and sang "I am the Walrus", amirite?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

It was about a dream that Paul McCartney had about being a walrus.

Yeah, but if you listen to the lyrics it sounds like a bit more than a dream. And their voices are totally messed up. That song, plus Octopus's Garden. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is kind of obvious.

Don't get me wrong, though... I absolutely love the Beatles. I mean, who doesn't, right?

Their voices sounded messed up? They're called vocal effects. That's the problem with people. If you LOOK or stuff like that you're gonna find it. Lucy in the sky with diamonds was made because of a picture Julian drew. Sure they did drugs, but it doesn't mean that every single song of theirs is about drugs. You can have an idea for a song and then continue writing it in a different way. I bet you think that abbey road has satanic bible readings on it too, right?

They weren't vocal effects, his voice just sounds different than his voice other songs. And they WERE doing acid and LSD at times, this isn't just a theory. I never said they always were, I just happen to think they were high when they wrote those 3 songs. I'm not advocating drugs, I'm just asking. I do not think Abbey Road has satanic bible readings. I don't go looking for stuff. It's kind of right in your face. Plus, I'm an atheist.

I love that song :)

I heard they were pissed at critics for saying their lyrics weren't good so they wrote that.

Actually, I am the Walrus was written by John. He wasn't on anything (although that was rare). He heard that school teachers were analyzing his songs and he thought that the was really lame, so he wrote I am the Walrus without it having any purpose then to confuse the shit out of people. If you ever read one of John's books, you will learn that he loves to play with words and make up nonsense, that was just the way he was. :)

Also, Octopus's Garden was a song that Ringo had written about a dream he had. Although the Beatles did do a lot of drugs and openly talked about it, hardly any of their songs have to do about drugs or were the product of drugs. They said that songs they wrote when they were 'high' or 'tripping' were always terrible and they just threw them out.
