-80 It would make more sense that 50% is a passing grade rather than 70%, amirite?

No :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

:) ok

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why do you think this anyway?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So it would be a whole lot easier to get a passing grade! Haha

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And then we have more dumbasses running around with no goals or motivation to do better than half ass work.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Please tell me you realized I was sarcastically agreeing with you in a clearly uneducated manner to show how wrong this post is.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

no i did :) now be gone, vile creature!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, if 50% is passing, that means you only have to know half the information you're taught to pass. That means that teachers are working to have half of the stuff they say go in one of your ears and out the other. To pass a class, one should know more than half the information, or else it was a waste of a learning experience.

cool story bro...say it again...cool story bro

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This is not necessarily the case. Sometimes professors will choose a section they have spent less than 5% of lectures on and make it worth 40% or more of the exam! True story...happened to me this semester. :-S

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Less than half if your teacher does multiple choice.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

At my school 50% is actually a passing grade. Anything below that is a fail though.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

...lucky...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Same here

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's the same at my school, but for almost everything you need at least 60% (so if you take a course and want the next course, you need at least 60% to be able to take it). Then, you also have degree requirements, where you need at least a certain average. On top of that, you have post degree program requirements, like if you want to do a masters you need a certain grade and if you're looking for a program to get into (say, education) you need a certain grade. So basically, you can't get a degree with a D (50%) average. You can with 65-70% (C+) though, but that's the lowest.

I feel like you're probably a middle schooler that got a 55 or something in a class and is mad that he/she got grounded

by Anonymous 12 years ago

nope im a sophomore... my lowest grade is a 77 in algebra 2 because i got a 40% on a test (ooops!) but i just always thought this, not because it relates to me, but it just seems like 70 is a more random number than 50...

In South Africa the passing grade is 30% or 40%, depending on the subject.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And that's the African country with white people in it! Just imagine how low your grade must be to pass in places like Kenya!... Wait nvm they don't have schools there

by Anonymous 12 years ago

well that was just a smidge racist... just a smidge

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's true, but we also don't get marks as easily as students in USA. We've had two American exchange students this year and they agree. In USA you can get extra credit or whatever to push your marks up. If your average is 90 at my school (in South Africa), you will no doubt be first in your grade. The standard of the NSC is a completely different topic though.

60% makes more sense to me.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm English and at university, the pass mark here is 40%, which is like a D, then 50% is like a C, 60% a B and 70% an A. But they make the assignments really difficult, so that only about 10% of people can get above 70%...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

At my school, 45% is a pass, although we are known for having a tough curriculum.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

50% is a pass here. If it were to be 60% almost half of my class would be failing a class, if not more.
