-123 People are always wishing for "world peace," but would living in a completely peaceful world really be good? With no arguing or wars or bad things EVER, the world would just be boring. amirite?

I'm okay with arguing and bad things to some degree, but it would be nice to be able to go out alone at night and not worry about somebody jumping out from behind a bush trying to kill me.

Yes because wars should exist for, if nothing else, our amusement.

There's no such thing as a utopia

If the only thing that keeps you from being bored is watching other people's violent conflicts, I'd say you're pretty twisted.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm surprised by the amount of no ways. Peace is impossible.

I don't think that's why they're voting it down. Saying that world peace would suck because it would be "boring" probably strikes many people, myself included, as ridiculous.

It would be boring. Conflict brings change and a world without change is boring.

I think both you and the OP misunderstand the concept of world peace. It's not about an overly passive world where everybody just holds hands and sings Kumbaya. Also, conflict isn't synonymous with needless bloodshed.

I understand wars and conflicts are horrible and tragic, maybe even needless, but its human nature. War and conflict is inevitable, and that's how progress happens.

I'm not arguing that peace is possible. I'm saying that the idea that it would be boring is stupid. I know humans are innately barbaric, though progress is still possible by nonviolent means.

I'll agree to disagree.

As portrayed by countless distopian science fiction novels.

If we had world peace I think it would be more along the lines of not having wars and making bigger efforts to come to compromises when working out things between countries and what not. Like in the UN; there are still arguments and disagreements but they are done to ensure a better result. So it's not like you and your friend couldn't have an argument if there was world peace, you would probably just settle it without killing each other

Peace doesn't mean that people won't ever argue. It just means there won't be any violence.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

who said no bad things? i think they're mostly referring to war and excessive violence.
