+188 Athiests: As long as people respect your decision to not believe in a god, you respect their choice to believe in a god. amirite?

As long as they don't make stupid or harmful decisions based on it.

I'm Christian... I have nothing against Atheists, but I do try to show them the way of God. To me, saying God doesn't exist if like saying Obama doesn't exist... Maybe you never saw him in person, but his influence and existance is obvious and undeniable.

I like to compare God to Antarctica! Then I say that Antarctica doesn't exist if I go by their logic. They always want picture proof or proof from a scientist. Pictures can be photoshopped, and scientists are full of doo doo sometimes.

Romeo and Juliet never existed, but they still influenced literature. The same theory can be applied with God, for all you know, he could just be a fictional character who was devised to keep people in line and make them less worried about dying. And the whole Obama thing doesn't make sense. I know Obama exists, not because I trust that he is, I've seen pictures and videos of him. He also isn't claiming to be immortal, and doesn't deny being human. Perhaps if there was nobody who's seen him, taken a picture of him, and he claimed to have created me, I wouldn't believe in his existiance. For now, I'll just continue to believe in a person, and not an immortal figure.

Yes, but Obama has never given ME answers directly for myself... God does all the time. Obviously I know that Obama exists... but I just feel like God has given me so much and he communicates with me on such obvious ways that I feel like if everyone else gave praying a try, they would see what I mean. And I understand that God isn't an actual person, but he's not supposed to be. Think about it... no matter if you believe in God or The Big Bang or whatever... no matter what you believe, anything powerful enough to create an entire universe is beyond are ability of comprehension.

That's awesome that God helps you and you have something to believe in, but you can't expect atheists to believe what you do. You don't see me trying to convince you that people evolved, even though it's what I believe. Nobody has a problem that you are Christian and it works for you, we have a problem because you try to "show us the way of God." You clearly don't respect the decisions by atheists, so I don't respect your decision to press your opinions onto others.

I wouldn't call his existence obvious or undeniable, and if you're a Christian I don't see why you do either. Faith is important, that's the point. You can't know, but you believe and have faith. I do think you are right to talk to people about God, to an extent. If you believe that people who don't accept God are doomed to an eternity of hellfire, it would be hypocritical to not prosthelytize.

If people bring up God, I will bring up my atheism. It usually ends up with them going, "YOUR AN ATHEIST?!" Also, if people try to convince me there is a god, I'll tell them why I don't believe.

It seems to me that atheists always try to disprove Christianity and call it out. There are plenty of other religions they don't believe in, but sometimes they want that attention. It's quite irritating. My "atheist" friend went through a Satanic stage not too long ago. He obviously believed in God then. He likes to get attention. It's actually really sad.

Says "Anonymous".

Satanist does not equal theist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaVeyan_Satanism

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I didn't say that. I was proving a point that some "atheists" just want attention. Much like some Christians and satanists do. If he believed in Satan then he believed in God, but now he is atheist. It's for attention. You're a complete moron if you though that I thought they were the same thing.

Going back to a different point; "My 'atheist' friend went through a Satanic stage not too long ago. He obviously believed in God then." So what you're saying is that if you ever believed in God, you cannot be and atheist? I was Catholic until I was about 13, because my parents shoved their religion down my throat. Now I'm an atheist because I realized the hypocrisy of religions and the amount of evidence of God (which is none).

I'm saying some "athiests" just want attention! That's all I'm saying. You could want attention too. I don't know. Do you frequently post statuses about Christianity and Jesus just so your Christian friend's will argue with you?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree with the post but I'm gonna nitpick a tiny bit, I don't know if I'd call it a decision.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This actually brings up an interesting topic, since it's debatable. While there may be atheists that don't believe in God because they never have and can't fathom the idea, there are at least some (such as yours truly) who used to believe but converted out due to lack of evidence. It was an active choice to stop believing, because I realized I was only believing what I _wanted_ to be true, and not what made the most sense (to me, at least).

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But then it WASN'T a decision? There's a difference between deciding not to believe, and realising you don't actually believe. I could go to church, read the Bible, and claim to be a Christian, but there'd always be a part, maybe just at the back of my mind, that didn't really think it was true.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But when you choose to //follow// that part of you that doubts—that's a decision.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Anon did my work for me. I wouldn't call that a decision. It was a realization.
