I actually agree with this post. People keep bringing up the "furthering our species" argument, which I have to call bullshit on. Guys, we as a species have flourished to the point of detriment. There are too goddamn many of us, and as a result some are forced to live in conditions that most of us could never even imagine, let alone endure. In this day and age (purposely) adding more kids into the world when so many others need a home is IMO incredibly selfish.
But so what? "Selfish" has such a negative connotation, and I think that's what people are responding to. To act selfishly is to act in one's own interest, but that doesn't mean that your intentions are automatically bad. If you want to have your own biological child to love, nurture, and give guidance and unconditional acceptance to, then that's a beautiful thing. Whether most of us want to admit it or not we act selfishly from time to time, about a myriad of things. So what? Who is realistically capable of complete selflessness 100% of the time?

Yeah, and I'm not saying you shouldn't have kids..cause if you want em go for it. I just haven't found an unselfish reason to have them yet.
by Anonymous12 years ago
To show them how beautiful the world can be. Boom.
