+72 The ages 18-20 are like being stuck in a limbo..it's like purgatory..You can't do things an adult can do, but you're still an adult and have to act like one and can be tried like one in a courtroom...but you still can't drink, amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The drinking age in the United States should be lower than 21. Nuff' said.

'nuff...? Where does the apostrophe go?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think the apostrophe goes in front... And, I agree (obviously). It's not like anyone waits anyways. It's like marijuana being illegal. People who are gonna smoke it, are gonna smoke it either way, so why don't they just decriminalize it so innocent people aren't being put in jail? Baffles me.

EXACTLY

yeah in the uk the drinking age is 18, same as voting. It strikes me as quite bizarre you still have drinking at 21 in the states. very odd indeed. can't young men and women be sent to die for their oil...i mean country...at the age of 18? In the UK actually there was talking of lowering voting to 16 because you can leave school for full-time work at that age, and you can join the army at 16 - but perhaps only in a non-combative role, i'm not sure. They won't do it though, 16 year olds can be taught how to fire guns easily enough, but as for having balanced opinions on social issues - we say no! hahaha

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, we can vote at 18, be tried as adults at 18, enlist in the army/marines/etc., buy tobacco. We can do ALL that, but still have to wait 3 more years to buy alcohol... I don't know why certain rules are still in play even though they're blatantly ridiculous.

Other certain rules that are still in play in America even though they're blatantly ridiculous: - The death penalty - Guns being legal Over and out

Abortion being 100% legal Gay's not being allowed to marry ...there are TONS of unjust laws in place in America, with more being made every day. Our government isn't by the people nor is it for the people. We're being scared into giving up our liberties by the very people who are supposed to be protecting them. The American government is nothing more than a corrupt business being run and controlled by corrupt people. ..and I'm done with my rant.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree with all that (...apart from the abortion bit) But still, well said

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There are some laws that //you// find unjust. I don't find the legality of guns or abortion to be unjust. You have to realize that while some laws don't satisfy you, they satisfy others. No one will ever be perfectly agreeable. I agree with you on the second part though, the gov't basically does whatever it wants, regardless of what the general public wants.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, since I am talking from my point of view, I don't feel the need to preface everything I say with "In my opinion" lol. I don't find the legality of guns to be unjust either. I am not 100% against abortion, I just think abortion needs to have stricter rules and guidelines surrounding it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, and also for extremely controversial issues like abortion or gun control, the gov't should just let the public vote on it, instead of voting for a politician that will make decisions in favor of lobbyists or to get more money. That way, the result will truly represent the majority.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree completely. By the people and for the people is how it should be.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Guns being legal is ridiculous? How about you shut up?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think lowering the voting age is absolutely ridiculous, I don't know why they even talked about lowering it. I'm 19 and I hardly know what my political stance is, let alone 16 year olds. The majority would vote randomly just because they can and not even think about what each party stood for, which quite frankly would screw over our government.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

True. But at the same time, most adults don't even know "who" or "what" they're voting for when they place their vote. So adults can blindly cast a vote but 16 year olds can't?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If adults don't know who they want to vote for, or don't care, they're more likely to not even go to the polling station, that's why the turnout is usually so low. I imagine 16 year olds would still go and vote anyway just because it's new and exciting. I was excited the first time I went. Plus they're more likely to be influenced by who their friends are voting for, or their parents might tell them who to vote for and use it as a "second vote".

by Anonymous 12 years ago

all true - and exactly why 16 year olds will not get the vote.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I can vote, buy tobacco, buy guns, view porn, and enter places which require being over 18. Drinking is nothing. Is it really that important to everyone?
