+257 Future alarm clocks should come with unobtrusive sensors (to attach to your temples) that detect exactly where you are in the sleep cycle and wake you during your lightest sleep phase, amirite?

I know that sleep cycle alarm clock apps already exist, but they aren’t really effective because it estimates when you fall asleep and it doesn’t account for interruptions of your sleep during the night.

but isn't the point of an alarm clock to wake you up at a specific time not during your 'lightest sleep phase'?

Although this is true, you can choose to wake up in a 20 minute span of when you want to wake up, and it'll do the lightest part of that. So, With normal alarm: wake up at 8am very tired With sooper alarm: wake up at 7:48 or 8:14 very energetic

You're more likely to wake up during your lightest sleep phase anyway. Just go to bed at a reasonable hour so your circadian rythms coincide with your alarm.
