I wouldn't respect someone who said stupid, pointless mean things (as that's how it usually is) whether they said it to my face or over the Internet. However, if someone had a problem with me, I'd respect them more of they discussed it with me maturely and in person rather than harassing me behind their computer screen. But mostly, "mean" people just don't earn my respect no matter where they do it
