-67 Why are dollars made of paper? I mean, paper burns, tears, gets wet, and flies away in the wind. Why can't we just have multiple coins representing each dollar, amirite?

It's not made out of paper.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's called "rag paper". It is made out of cotton, and it is real paper, all paper used to be made the same way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It might be nicknamed "rag paper," but it's made out of mostly cotton and so it's not actually paper. It is much more resilient. You're an idiot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thats rude. So they made a mistake, that doesnt make them an idiot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, basically it is. Because it has most of the same properties.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its made out of cotton. or at least part of it is.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Then it's cotper.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Again, just to be sure, it's called "rag paper", and it is an old-fashioned type of paper, but paper just the same.

I really want to delete that comment now.

Who the hell wants to carry around a bag full of coins instead of a wallet full of bills? I wish Canada would get rid of the toonie and go back to the two dollar bill.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But who wants to have burnt, soggy, and torn up dollars in that bulging wallet

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Go to the bank, they will give you new ones, in return for the damaged ones.

in australia (woot) our notes start at $5, and the notes are all made of magical plasticky stuff so they don't rip (unless you cut them with scissors) and they don't burn easily

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In canada soon they are making plastic money like they have in australlia, so the money lasts longer, because the average life of a paper bill is roughly 5-10 year while plastic is 20-25

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, a bill (in circulation) generally only lasts 30 days. That's why the mints have to make so much of it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

yer why dont you stupid americans make ur money plastic like us incredibly awesome aussies!!!! gosh we r smart!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

To make it more difficult to counterfeit. Aussie money isn't that hard to make, in a lab/printshop. Our paper, made from a very specific kind of cotton (and specific kinds of ink, and stamped with multiple plates for texture) is practically impossible to make a perfect counterfeit of.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wow you stupid aussie.... you failed there!!! and americans are wayyy smarter than aussies. i dont remember hearing about aussies doing anything great like us americans

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh god don't stoop down to them.ugh

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dumbass^^ "r smart", Lmao.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Seriously? That's the only thing you saw wrong with that?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well i don't have to worry about my dollar bills ripping. We have dollar coins (:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its made out of cotton and linen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it's a cotton-paper substance, foo'

by Anonymous 13 years ago

by Anonymous 13 years ago
