+179 People usually think that the ones that support gays and bisexuals are open-minded, but that's not always true. If someone is pro-gay and STRICTLY pro-gay, and they won't accept that other people are not, then they're being just as close-minded as strict anti-gays, and that's just hypocritical, amirite?

So much yes. I know someone who is intensely pro-gay, and he goes as far as to deny that heterosexuality truly even exists, saying instead that "everyone is bisexual, but most people are just in denial." It's really annoying, because if I denied the existence of homosexuality (which i don't), he'd freak out. I feel your pain.

If I viewed a racist in a negative spotlight, does that make me close-minded? Personally I respect everyone and their religion, but I start to have a problem if they try to restrict national law, or try to legally tie someone down for something they can't control.

I don't think anyone is truly open-minded but it's possible to be more open-minded than someone else. If you brag about how open-minded you are, then you're probably not. Just thought I'd add.

I've never net anybody that believes gay is the only way. You're allowed to disagree with people who would preclude the rights of others because of their own, non-universal beliefs.

I agree in that some people are like "everyone is a little bisexual, no one is 100% straight". It's annoying because some people are genuinely completely straight ( not some, A LOT) and it's frustrating for people to be like "maybe you should try it, you never know" I don't want to try it, don't shove that down my throat.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Are they actually trying to shove it down your throat though? I'm genuinely asking, because I don't know the answer in your case. But I keep seeing these comments that are annoyed with people who claim that everyone is bisexual, and the thing is, yes it would be annoying if someone claimed that it was a definite truth that everyone is bisexual, but there is nothing wrong with someone believing in that theory. In fact, saying "some people are genuinely completely straight" sounds just as bad to me, because it's simply YOUR theory, but you're saying it in a way that makes it sound as if you think you know that that is the definite truth. Which you don't.

Does this also apply to "There is no god?" Because there are plenty of people out there trying to shove that down peoples throats, but no one ever says anything.

"Pro-gay" people like this annoy me to no end too: http://tinyurl.com/selfproclaimedsaints (sorry, did try to embed) It is not "open-minded" to not just be insulting to someone who's done you no harm. Last I checked, that's called "basic human decency" and is the bare minimum requirement for NOT being a douchebag. (the image is drawn by http://sirpaahdin.deviantart.com/ ).

My friend is a bit Pro-gay. She's one of those girls who just sort of obsesses over gay guys. She has actually said things like "Gay people are just more awesome" I try my best to convince her that gay people are normal people, and they can be dicks or they can be great people. But she disregards it because she finds this kind of thing fun.

Is there a possibility she is a yaoi-fangirl? Just checking you know XD Cause, that might be it Or not...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Nah, she doesn't like anime. She watches Glee.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well, that has gays too XD But it's probably a relieve that she's not an obsessive yaoi-fangirl

by Anonymous 11 years ago

My gay best friend stole my boyfriend once. Yeah, they can be DICKS sometimes.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

THAT sounds like an interesting story

So if I went to Nazi Germany and demanded the rights of Jews and thought that Nazi beliefs were wrong, I'd be narrow-minded? No.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes. Read the post again until you understand

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's not what I meant. The Nazis tortured gays, and that's horribly wrong, you have to treat them like human too (whether you support it or not), what I'm saying is that if you act hostile and narrow-minded to people who aren't actively pro-gay, then you're not much better than those who are actively anti-gay, because you are both close-minded and won't acknowledge that some people accept/don't accept gays. You're example is saying a whole other idea, because physically hurting them is inhumane, as well as hurting anyone else for any other reason.

I was talking about the start of Nazi Germany when they took away all of the rights of Jews.

I have a friend who came out as gay about a year ago, and he is incredibly intense about his homosexuality to the point where it's become his entire identity. He told me all this awful stuff that he believes about straight people, saying that they're all closed-minded and out to get gay people. It got to the point where he literally only associated with gay people, and he just sort of stopped talking to me. He popped back into my life about a month ago when he heard that I was dating a girl. Now, I find this to be the weirdest thing. I mean, it's totally okay to be proud of who you are, but how can you honestly hate about 90% of the population? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Exactly.
