+83 Atheists: It's really irritating when someone who knows you're atheist invites you to come to church with them, amirite?

*Forces you to go to church with them. Stupid parents.

Yeah, and when they blame all your troubles on the fact that you "don't have god in your life". Grr.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes! Exactly!

My mom said she was forcing me to go to church, and I told her I would burn down the cross.

Wow @meetmadie are we the same person?

I don't think it's bad if they invite you as long as they respect you declining.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's what I'm saying. I'm flattered if they want to spend time with me and if they're okay with me saying "no thanks," that's fantastic.

If the purpose was to try to convert you to their religion, that //might// be annoying, but as an invitation to spend time with them, not at all.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah, the girl that invited me has been trying to convert me forever. It makes me angry that she can't respect my beliefs like I respect hers.

My religious friends invite me to youth group occasionally, and I don't mind.

It's also annoying when my Atheist friends invite me to hang out with them on Sundays and get upset when I can't go because I have to go to church. Every argument goes both ways.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah, that's dumb that they get upset.

I don't really see why it's a big deal. I've brought atheist friends to church, and I've gone to a mosque with a Muslim friend. Whats the problem in seeing a little bit of what is essentially culture? That is assuming they aren't trying to convert you or something.

A few years ago a "friend" took me to her Pentecostal church and they did this Altar Call thing. Basically you stand at the altar and the reverend yells in your face and tells Jesus to fill your body with His power, and if you're truly filled with Jesus' love then you pass out. Scariest thing I've ever seen. After that the reverend said some homophobic stuff. //Great// experience. That "friend" no longer goes to church because she's bisexual, apparently.
