i hate shows with laugh tracks and then have the dumbest jokes, none of it is funny, i hate that show so much i don't know how people watch it

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah, it was the laugh track that really got me. My cousin tries to tell me how great it is but it's not. It's just one set up joke after another. The only reason I think people like it is because the characters geeks.

Yeah, I can tell that the only reason people I know watch it is because they're the same people who pride themselves in being "nerds" with their thick rimmed glasses and chemistry jokes. Not to say that applies to everyone who watches it, but definitely the kids at my school.

It's a thing people like. Let them have the illusion that it is intelligent humor and they like to laugh at it. I thought the things they made Sheldon say in the first few seasons were hilarious.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Fair enough. Looks like my comment came off more hateful than intended, but I just hear so much about these damn things that it starts to get a bit annoying. You're right though, people can laugh at whatever they want.

One of my friends is rather nerdy/geeky and well, she avoids the show. Like hell. It's painful for her to watch, apparently it's too confronting, it's in a certain way to similar to how she and her friends behave I quite enjoy the show, though I do not watch it that often and mostly watched episodes from the first few seasons

It's intelligent humor. No wonder you don't like it.

"Here's some music I like: Ke$ha Coldplay Lady Gaga Katy Perry 3OH!3 LMFAO (especially party rock anthem)" You are //such// a hipster.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@Anon If it's so intelligent, why don't they make the show better? The only thing original about that show is that it's not a family with a stupid dad, hot mom, and two or three kids. That's about it. It has every other characteristic of the average sitcom.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's a humorous show about intelligent people, not intelligent humor.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

StickCaveman; it's a hot misunderstood mom Isn't it?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@O_____o: You might be on to something.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@StickCaveman; I'm certainly on to something...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

YES! THANK YOU!

I don't think it's painfully unfunny and it's not as annoying to me as it is to alot of people, but I don't think I would be willi g to watch more than one episode at a time, and I wouldn't bother to watch it online.

Of course, everyone likes something different, and I respect that, but The Big Bang Theory always seemed like just another stereotypical sitcom. The only twist it offered was "nerdy" characters, which might make for a really witty show if it didn't follow the same plot trends as many other sitcoms.

So is the death I've planned out for you. :P

I'm just gonna plead my case here. In my experience, most people laugh the most at Sheldon. Although the writers might not admit it, he clearly has almost all of the hallmarks of Asperger's syndrome, something which I happen to have. You may not know this, but it's a disability. Laughing at Sheldon for saying something inappropriate or overly complicated is, in my opinion, roughly on par with laughing at a paraplegic for not being able to climb stairs. Having been laughed at (and not in the same way one laughs at a sitcom) my entire life for doing much the same thing as Sheldon, it's grating to see it being played for laughs in such a popular show. However, I will admit that I fucking love the theme song.

He could also be an intj. I am, and he fits most of the characteristics.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

As am I. In fact I would say that most Aspies have that same personality type. The two things aren't mutually exclusive. However, Asperger's goes beyond shyness and awkwardness, and I think Sheldon's personality is more in line with something more than simple character traits.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I've been looking more into the personality profile of an intj and aspergers, and I think you're right. I don't think they intentionally made him have aspergers, but from what I understand an intj doesn't give a fuck about social convention while someone with aspergers doesn't grasp it. I'm sorry if I sound horridly ignorant and/or insensitive, I'm getting my information off the internet.

If you apply the MBTI to a non-aspie intj and an aspie, they will most likely give the same answers to the questions. I don't know why that sounded like an argument, I think we're pretty much on the same page :P. And you don't sound ignorant or insensitive at all. You're a damn sight more sensitive than the people who laugh at the name of it. "Hehehe... Ass Burgers". Asperger's even autocorrects to "as perverts" on my phone.

Honestly the show is nothing but set-up after set-up, all ending with a quirky Sheldon has asperger's punchline. But you shouldn't really expect less from the guy who created Two And A Half Men. That being said, I love the Soft Kitty song. :)

I've always enjoyed the show, well written and funny in my opinion.
