-93 If I tell you that I can't fly you would never ask me to prove it. And if you did it would be impossible for me to do so. But if I say that I can fly, it is now up to me to prove that I can. If I can't prove that I can fly, chances are that I can't actually fly. It should be no different with religion, amirite?

Whats with you and religion?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I like puzzles. This is a pretty big one that is rather important. Also I like the comments that it creates.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If it's comments your after then just type in religion or god into the search bar and read all the comments that come with the posts...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Not as fun. I don't get to partake.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Also...everyone has their vice.

Haha I posted this a while ago http://amirite.net/422881 Similar.

This argument/discussion goes in circles every time. There is never going to be final consensus, so why bother?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Because it's interesting to see how many different views their are and explore them.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Really cause everytime I see this discussion it's the same points being brought up and it ends with both sides still not agreeing

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I always see something new. Like this time, I saw them talking about how God created the earth in 6 days but that that is arbitrary.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't think that religious beliefs should require proof, as they are, in essence, a matter of opinion. There is virtually nothing you can do to convince atheists or theists that their views are wrong. I am atheist, but I would never say "there is no way God", I would instead say "I don't believe in God."

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Did I seriously type "there is no way God"? I have no idea how the heck that happened.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Another religion post. What a surprise.

Dat Russel's Teapot - amirite?

YYA

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I feel like all the arguments related to the anatomy required for flight you had above would have been avoided if you had just used that argument :p. But the flight one is certainly reasonable, overall.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think I just had poor wording. Oh well.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That too, I suppose. And it was especially funny because I think the POTD at the time this got homepaged was another post that essentially summed up to "Religion is doofy," and it was super-positive.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

A lot of this people on this site take no time to think about what something is saying. If I make a post about gay marriage and word into sound pound positive bit it's actually negative I'll still get +200

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I know, and if the first person happens to disagree a lot of people will fall into the sense of, "Well, it's negative, so 'No Way' must be right!"

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I always laugh a bit when someone says 'Theres all this evidence against gexistence'snce' No dumbass, there's no evidence. There's as little evidence that he doesn't as there is that he does. That's why I also laugh when someone tries to argue either side, but more so Atheists

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No way to prove you can't fly? Throw the guy off a building, that would work. Or throw some helpless people down, to give him more incentive to fly and rescue them. Or, better yet, throw a chest of valuables and maybe money down. Immoral, but practical.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

"They only didn't fly because they didn't want to. They could have. We can't know their ways" That type of argument is the exact argument that is used in religious debates.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Huh, that's very much true. There's NOTHING you can say at that point :|

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Which is why Atheist get so frustrated when religious people use that excuse to explain the fallacies in their holy book.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The one thing I don't understand about pretty much every religion argument is why do (some) atheists give a fuck about other people believe? If you don't believe in a god, awesome, cool for you. Do you want a fucking sticker to commemorate this? I don't see why people care about other people's religion, or why atheists are consistently trying to change Christians' minds about god. It's not like it affects you.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Not like it affects me? As a homosexual who's major interest is in Science, I'm going to have to call bullshit on that one. Religion (not just Christianity) has done much more harm than good throughout the world. Almost all wars have been started or justified by religion. Same goes for prejudice against minorities. It's also the reason that Science was brought to a stand still for 1,500 years. Anyone who went against the teachings of the church was classified as a heretic and sent to prison or killed. I could go on about this all night but instead I'll let you do some of your own research. Maybe then you could learn a thing or two about just how much religion does effect all of us.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm not saying that as a whole, religion doesn't affect us. It does. But good luck wiping out religion as a whole. If it ever does happen, it will take a very, very, very long time. And people would have wars about things even if religion wasn't around. And the thing is that religious is NOT synonymous with closeminded and homophobic. I'm a religious person and I am certainly not homophobic, nor are the majority of my religious friends. I am actually a very liberal person. I'm not against people having debates about religion, it's just that so often, those debates turn into name calling debates, with nonreligious people calling religious people closeminded and stupid, along with saying they believe in "an imaginary friend" which is pointless and does not help their side of the debate at all. It actually just makes the other side get angry, go on the defense, and say equally mean things. I should be free to believe however I want without being insulted by other people. If I want to believe there is a magical pink elephant in the sky ruling as god, as long as it does not hurt others, I don't see why others care.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't care about that and I don't think you will find a single debate I've been in where I have done that and all the ones where that has happened from others I have ended the debate. And you'd be surprised by how many first world European countries are majority or becoming majority atheist. My problem doesn't come from the individual, it comes from the church. So I address the individual about the evils of the church in hopes that they will see through the bull shit and either leave the church or try to change it. I won't ask someone to leave their religion. Just the hierarchy that is The Church.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I can understand that.
