+58 English people on American sitcoms are annoying because they say American words such as 'butt' instead of bum/bottom and 'cotton candy' instead of candyfloss but with a posh British accent, amirite?

Yes, it's a massive failure in script editing! From what I've seen, British scripts will always observe differences in American and British English between characters. It would only work if said character had been living in the US for a very long time and thus had picked up the habit of using them. But you see them being used even with tourist and visitor characters. Ludicrous

It's annoying when British people pronounce their Rs like short As, then they skip their Ls, and make up words nobody uses. I'm not really complaining I'm showing you that complaining about other people's language is completely stupid.

But OP's not complaining about American dialect...they're just complaining about the inaccuracy of scripting a brit like they use that dialect. Like if there was a British TV show with an American character and they used words like "loo" and "bum" it would sound weird. No need to get pissy.

How often does that actually happen?

I didn't realise 'butt' was an American word...I know plenty of people that use it.
