+253 As much as you hate it when religious people try to convert you, if you genuinely believed in hell, you wouldn't want others to end up in it either, amirite?

Really you should be offended if they don't try to convert you. That means they don't want you in Heaven.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Or they could just accept that you have different opinions and leave you alone..

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Or they might not believe that all other religions will go to Hell.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But if you genuinely believed in hell, you'd have to be pretty fanatic about your religion. So they would probably believe that if you were a different religion, you'd go to Hell.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why does belief in Hell make you a fanatic? Most Christians believe in Hell, not just the crazy ones.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's true. The internet doesn't portray all Christians very fairly, and sometimes I forget they're not all insane.

PinkSponge - As far as I'm aware, the only religion that believes you'll go to hell if you're not in that religion is Christianity.

I completely understand that point of view, but I just don't think it excuses being overtly pushy. I guess what bugs me about this is that Christianity is far from being a secret, as is the concept of Hell. Assuming that other people have never considered the topic on their own is a bit presumptuous, I think. If this subject should come up naturally in conversation, then by all means discuss it. Otherwise, regardless of good intentions, I still think it's incredibly rude. :/

But religions don't say that other people with different religions will end up in hell, nor that everyone who believes in that religions will end up in heaven either.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't think Christianity does ( I remember being told that the original bible doesn't even explicitly refer to heaven or hell and I'd assume the same for Juadaism) but I'm 99% the Qu'ran does. "Garments of fire have been prepared for the non-believers" and so forth...nasty

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Pretty much all major religions have the belief that non-believes will not make it to heaven. Don't just target Islam.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm not trying to just target Islam, just saying that with Judaism and Christianity it's more debatable whereas the Qu'ran definitely says it. Also, what other major religions? Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism don't, not sure about Sikhism

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Um I happen to be muslim and read the Qu'ran, actual Qu'ran in arabic and not just translated stuff, and this is false, or just translated incorrectly. Islam doesn't say so either.

Ok, thank you for correcting me :)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's nice when someone tries to convert you. When they get pushy and start insulting you is another story.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'd be kind of offended, actually. I mean, thanks for trying to make me follow what you think is a better way of life because you're genuinely concerned, but on the other hand, they're assuming that I'm just going with whatever I go with because I never actually thought about it. Well thanks for thinking I'm an unthinking individual who doesn't actually care about her way of life. As it happens, I HAVE thought about it thoroughly, because I AM a thinking individual who cares about her way of life, and decided this is the best option... Maybe you're the one who's wrong.
