+194 If you aren't attracted to people of a certain race it's not racist, it's preference, amirite?

No, it's racist. To be racist is to prefer one race over another for ANY reason.

I'm not attracted to women. Does this make me a misogynist?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

To be fair, sexuality is a mixture of psychology and genetics. Preference to race can be changed with a bit of mental practice.

If you're not attracted to women because you hate or distrust them, then yes. You're a misogynist. But one doesn't necessarily have to hate or distrust someone because of their race to be racist. Racism is simply the belief that one race is superior to another, and the preference of one race over another carries this implication.

Let's say you just happen to only be physically attracted to black people. That DOES NOT mean you think they are a superior race to white people or to any other race, so I wouldn't call that racism.

No it's not. It's purely an attraction deal. I can find myself entirely equal to someone without being attracted to them. That doesn't make me a racist. It's the exact same thing. I'm not closing myself off to them. If I saw someone of said racial background that I was attracted to I might act on it. But the majority of the time I don't find that race attractive. I prefer brown hair. But that doesn't mean I hate blonde people.

If I happened to be more attracted to Asians than to black people, it doesn't mean I think Asians are more superior or that the two races are not equal. It just means I happen to like certain qualities that Asians typically have and black people typically don't. You honestly can't help what you're attracted to.

While this is just semantics, it is //technically// racism in that you find members of a certain race more attractive than others as a potential mate. Try to ignore the negative connotations- you can still think that all of the races are objectively equal and deserve equal treatment, it's just that you subjectively find one more attractive than another. It isn't a bad thing.

Though this is true, I say that their race shouldn't matter anyway.

I don't think that I am superior to people I find unattractive; quite often, I find people who are superior to me in some regards to be //aesthetically// unattractive, which is what I'm assuming we're talking about. I can recognize that some people that I'm not attracted to physically have desirable qualities, I just don't necessarily find those qualities attractive, if that makes sense. For example, when I see a woman with attractive qualities such as high cheekbones or a nice butt, I know that she is attractive though I am not attracted //to// her. The same thing applies to race, and I don't think that it makes me racist.

I'm not attracted to black people because they are generally ugly. It's about as racist as not liking a white guy or gal cuz they're ugly.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I wouldn't say they're ugly because that might offend people. I would say "Generally, I am not attracted to black people."

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Now //that's// racist. You're making the generalization that all black people are ugly, not that you are not usually attracted to them. Someone does not have to be ugly for someone not to be attracted to them.
