+96 When people accuse you of being a bigot for believing that there is value in a single-partner sex life as opposed to sleeping around, it kind of scares you just how "liberal" society has gotten, amirite?

Sleeping around is "liberal"? Conservatives everywhere call women "sluts" just for using birth control, how non-liberal is that? Besides, this isn't the general mindset of most liberals even remotely. So a few liberal kids (who are obviously painfully wrong) happen to say this to you. What's making you think it's like the consensus among liberals altogether?

I'm sorry for using the term so vaguely, but I couldn't think of another word to fit the kind of extreme "don't-judge-anyone-and-tolerate-everything-or-else-you're-a-bigot" type of people. I wasn't trying to make a political debate, more a specific point that some values in our society are going very extreme

"some values in our society are going very extreme" is barely derivable as the only meaning of this post. //Barely//

Anyone who uses Bigot in that situation has no idea what the word actually means.

Literally everyone I know sees a single-partner relationship as the ideal to strive for. Whomever it is you know that believes otherwise is a member of a very small minority and doesn't represent "society".

I dunno, I've met people on here. Basically I was arguing that there is a higher ideal to strive for than being a prostitute/slut and I got destroyed for it

Those words are not synonyms and mean very different things. To me, if you believe in a single partner sex life, good for you. As long as you don't look down on anybody who doesn't agree or follow that. No problem by me.

I'd be shocked if someone "destroyed" you for wanting people to be in relationships rather than having sex for money. There also seems to be two sides to this story, likely with you slut shaming in the first place.

Well, you need to understand the context of the post I was commenting on. I didn't bring up the topic or the terminology, but the conversation was already about "sluts" and slut shaming. My stance was not one of shaming or judging others, but simply pointing out that I felt bad for people who put their worth in how physically or sexually attractive they were. I just think that they have so much potential for a fuller type of love and joy that they haven't had the fortune of experiencing yet. I wasn't shaming them, just wishing they could find the more genuine and selfless relationships which I believe are a higher ideal and of which sex is only one dimension. My previous comment was not well worded or explained, so it probably sounded more derogatory than I intended or feel

Yeah, monogamy is relatively universal. It's not like"liberals" get mad about it. I'm not sure how you deduced that conclusion.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Assuming that was the case, I wouldn't be scared of how "liberal" it's gotten. I'd be scared of how "idiotic" it's gotten. Who the hell goes around calling people bigots for sleeping with one partner? That's just dumb. Also, all this is stated under the pretense that "bigot" is the right word to call someone...which it isn't.

Yeah, I have no problem with people sleeping around cos it's their body their choice, but some people seem to have a problem with the fact I only sleep with people I really like, feel comfortable with and trust, shouldn't the right to chose what to do with your bodies work both ways? :s kinda confusing
