+265 In an argument, you can usually at least understand where your opponent is coming from, but there's at least one issue where you can't possibly comprehend how the other side can justify their belief. amirite?

Global Warming. Evolution. Gay rights. Marijuana Legalisation.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I agree 100% for the first three (although I don't really know too much about Global Warming, I'm in favor of reducing environmental damage/carbon footprint, etc...). Personally, I'd be fine with marijuana legalization, but I understand why some people might be against it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Personally I don't. But I'd love to be enlightened. The only thing I've ever thought of is the "It's a drug." thing. Well so is alcohol. And that can actually hurt you.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Pretty much what this guy said, except I advocate the legalization of all drugs. Gotta take small steps, though. I'm also an opponent of strict gun control, and I think that's a pretty one-sided argument.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I can see both sides to all those issues except for gay rights.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I can even see where people think they're coming from with Gay Rights. It's against their religion. But Global Warming is the number one that I honestly have no clue why people say that it's not real. Global Warming does not effect your religion or your rights. There are no real personal reasons to say global warming is false other than you don't want to accept that you are guilty of something.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well some people argue that we should try to prevent it and others argue that it's a natural process so we shouldn't worry about it. That's what I was thinking when I read it. Are there still that many people that deny global warming even exists?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You'd be surprised. Most of them have gone to the "It's a natural process." (Which is absolute crap) But some (like my parents) deny that it's even getting warming.

Did they not go outside this last winter?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Strict gun control won't do anything. Criminals who want guns will get guns.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

.....Yeah so why not make it easier for them.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Again, it won't matter either way. Strict gun control just means that more people will have illegal, untraceable weapons because they wont want to jump through the stupid little hoops that it would create.

If you combine the populations of Great Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark and Australia, you'll get a population roughly the size of the United States. The United States had 32,000 gun deaths in the year 2000. In Great Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark and Australia there was a sum total of just 112. Do you think it's because Americans are more homicidal by nature? No, it's because those countries have strict gun control laws. (Thanks to Toby from the WW)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Global warming? Agreed. Evolution? Agreed. Gay rights? Come on, that one's obvious. There are numerous reasons people are against homosexuality: a.) Homosexual acts are against their religion. b.) Homosexual acts gross them out. c.) They're uncomfortable being around others of the same sex who are possibly attracted to them. Legalization of marijuana? Another obvious one. Marijuana makes you into a lazy, useless fuck. Just because alcohol is legal doesn't mean marijuana should be. If meth were legal, would that mean heroine should also be legal? It's also the sign of a weak government if they change the laws because not enough drug lords were following them.

Switzerland having strict gun control laws? Switzerland trains every capable adult to use a firearm, and they have a pretty high instance of civilian ownership. Australia didn't get the strict gun laws until 1996, and guess what? Crime in Australia increased 47% from 1996 to 2008. Gun ownership is on the rise in the United States, and crime is on the decline. It's funny you mention our gun deaths and homicide. Over half of all gun deaths in the United States are suicide. Following that, most of the gun deaths are cops shooting would-be criminals, and armed citizens shooting would-be criminals. Those countries you mentioned don't get the inflated gun deaths from suicide and civilians shooting criminals, so it's extremely easy to skew the data in your favor. Frankly, it's bullshit. The UK has extremely strict gun laws, and is one of the violent crime capitals of the world. You have to look at individual statistics of countries, because everyone is different. Japan is also a bad place to mention. They care far too much about their image as a non-violent place. Police coerce doctors in to ruling homicides as natural deaths if remotely possible. Gun deaths aren't necessarily bad.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

In the United States, it's estimated that up to 2.4 million crimes are prevented annually by civilians wielding firearms. It's also completely relevant that our mass-shooting occur in places where guns are banned. Ban guns, and people are guaranteed to be easy victims. Within the states themselves, there is an extremely consistent trend concerning gun laws and crime. In states with more restrictive gun laws, there is more crime; and the opposite is true. Edit: I also felt I should add that there is a town in the US that REQUIRES every suitable household to own a firearm. It has one of, if not THE, lowest crime rate in this country.

When it comes to these encounters, I try to just turn my brain off for a bit so my mind doesn't collapse in on itself trying to connect the dots these people did. Even though half the time they're missing like all the dots except for 2 of them.

Gay rights. I do not understand why people would be against it at all.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Eh, I've actually seen some anti-gay marriage sites that mentioned some interesting statistics of gay couples already married and more. But even so, I bet you straight couples can have some terrible statistics too and it's pretty wrong to take away one important thing in a couple's life just 'cause a few people screw theirs up.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Exactly. Just because some don't go well doesn't mean two men who love each other dearly shouldn't be allowed to get married.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Mhm, I fully agree. I was just sayin' that there are a few things that people would not like against gay marriage, so I can see their argument even though I am not convinced by that alone.

Belief in god baffles me, I just can't comprehend how some people truly believe in a god. But hey, fun for them
