-197 Age is just a number that tells you how many times you have been around the sun. It shouldn't dictate when a person is mature enough to vote or drink, who is allowed to date whom, or when someone becomes an adult, amirite?

Well within a society and the way we are raised, certain laws that have to do with age are appropriate.

Are you 12?

As a teenager myself (I'm going ahead and assuming you are too), I can understand why you would say this, but I think that once you grow older and mature, you will realize more clearly why laws regarding age exist: to keep you and others around you safe.

Yeah! Those 5 years olds have every right to vote their five year old leader into the white house! Who cares if they've only been around the sun 5 times

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If 5-year-olds could vote, Dora would be in the White House and we'd all speak Spanish as well as English.

I disagree. However, I do think that the current age restrictions are too high for drinking, gambling, etc. Don't abolish restrictions, just change them.

Maturity and wisdom only come with time and experience. I'm not saying someone who is older than you is always more mature necessarily, but you can't say age doesn't matter squat.

I believe age is just a number when it comes to me wanting to date a 25 year old. But age is, for most people, also a factor of body development and life experience. Maturity varies from person to person and age shouldn't be a factor of that, but while age isn't as big of a deal as I think it is, it's a bigger deal that you're explaining it to be.

Age is just a number? Tell that to your possibly-wanting-butt-sex prison mate.

If it was possible to determine if each individual is ready to do something, I would agree. however, it's not, so we have to make an age restriction.
