+385 Sometimes when you read an important part of a book that genuinely surprises you, you just need to close the book and think about it, amirite?

This happened to me twice within the past two days. Both times, all these characters were at a wedding and it seemed to go swimmingly. In one wedding, two of my favourite characters died. In another, a character I hated died.

Regardless of whether I'm watching a show or reading a book that I'm really interested in, whenever the character I **hate** dies, I always pause or close the book and have this amazing feeling rush through me and just feel like screaming "YES! FINALLY!!"

What were you reading?

Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin. It's part of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, more commonly known by the HBO series' name "Game of Thrones."

I love those books! I like how Martin isn't afraid to kill off main characters, well unless I actually like that character...then I want to throw the book across the room. I haven't finished the most recent book, but I can only remember one wedding (where the two people died). Who died in the other one?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It was a while after. *Spoilers for other people* This is the wedding where King Joffrey married Margaery, but then choked to death from poisoning. I'm about to start Feast for Crows (4/5) on Tuesday when school starts for me.

Oh yeah! I had forgotten about that one. It seems like so long ago with these never ending books. I started A Dance with Dragons recently, but got distracted with other books half way through. I will probably try to finish it soon so I am ready for the next one...whenever that comes out.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

2 more to come. I don't think we will be getting a new book any time soon since A Dance with Dragons just came out about a year ago. I'm looking forward to Dance with Dragons because Daenerys is one of my favourite characters and the title just screams her name.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah she's in that one a lot...at least so far. It is a big relief from Feast for Crows because in that one you are pretty much all the characters you don't like, like Cersei and Jamie, and you don't hear anything about some of the major characters until the next book.

Cersei isn't //too// bad other than the incest. She wants to be the shit in the kingdom, but can't because she is female (and can be a bit stupid at times.) Jaime is a douchebag, but he has this niceness towards Brienne. One of my friends told me Myrcella chapters are cool, but she seems like a whiner, but I do have pity for her. However, I can't wait to see what Arya is doing or Sansa as well as Tyrion, Catelyn and Bran. I don't know if Sansa can marry since Tyrion is not dead, but I'm assuming his disappearance is a secret. I still can't imagine what will happen in the end since there are now 3 contenders, but 1 is unknown to Westoros and the other is at the Wall. At least, that's what has happened where I am at. Please do tell me if A Dance with Dragons is as good as the rest of the series.

I would say Cersei's only redeeming quality is that she loves her children. Other than that I can't stand her. Oooh and there are Myrcella chapters? I guess I haven't gotten there yet. (Or I have a really bad memory and her chapters never stick out in my mind.) I always love seeing an Arya or a Tyrion chapter. They are definitely my favorites. Sansa's chapters are interesting to me. I was glad she had a chapter since we lost Arya in that book, and well I used to like Daenerys, but overtime, or I guess just this last book, she begins to annoy me. Hopefully it's just the beginning of A Dance with Dragons and it will get better! So far I do still like the book, I just have to pace myself with these 1000 page books. I will probably pick it up again soon. Yeah I am also really curious as to how it is going to end. I still have no idea who will end up on top. Martin is very good at making it seem one is going to win and then flipping it real fast. I also wonder about what everything outside the wall is going to have to do with the final picture. Somehow everything is probably going to end up connected again, and I can't wait to find out!

Well, I'm not sure if they were Myrcella chapters, my friend just said there is a focus on Dorne so I just assumed. I hear from a lot of people that Daenerys becomes some annoying and repetitive child later on which I am not looking forward to read. I will probably come up with some reason why she is acting that way or I might just drop her. She was the reason why I started reading these books, I saw her name and thought what a cool name that was. Stupid reason, I know. I also hear her storyline in Dance With Dragons is a little bit confusing which I also don't look forward to reading. When it comes to pacing, I was good for the first two books, it took me about a month each. Mind you, I had school then. I got Storm of Swords last week's Thursday and finished on Tuesday. My school doesn't start until next Tuesday which explains my quick reading. I agree, it's really hard to get into his head. I think Stannis will win, he seems very fair, but unforgiving. Or Westoros can go into ruins from the Others. I kiddingly say to my friends that the ending will be a democracy for Westoros even though that is completely unlikely.

Ahhh this discussion has made me want to finish A Dance With Dragons now! I guess I have this long 3 day weekend until school catches up with me again. I should be able to do it, right? I love Daenerys' name! She has one of those odd names that you could actually see being normal. (If that makes sense) And yeah so far it is pretty confusing. I am just kind of going with it hoping something interesting will happen. A democracy would be crazy! hehe Isn't one of the major aspects of the book a fight for the throne? I highly doubt everyone will become friendly and agree to give the power to the people. It would make the ending really interesting though...so hey you never know right?

These are my longest comments EVER! goo

I thought I was the only one!

This happens with specific lines in a book, too. Sometimes I pause and recite it out loud to let its meaning sink it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

And when I see a word I realize I've never seen, only heard.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

For real! Like when I first came across the word "segue" with its actual spelling, it threw me off.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's strange because a few days ago I was trying to spell segue and having issues

by Anonymous 11 years ago

All the freaking time.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I reread the part a few times.

I've also noticed that there are times when I'm just like " What the heck did I just read?" and I have to put the book/story down because I can not believe the author would write something so profoundly stupid, ignorant, or confusing.
