I disagree. I feel that if you earn your money you should be able to spend it on whatever you want.

Whether or not it is ridiculous is a matter of opinion. In my opinion, if you work for your money and you want it, it's not ridiculous to pay 400 for it.

There's no specified time-frame. OP said "a cell phone". A cell phone will always be a cell phone. However, tomorrow's cell phone may make today's cell phone look like yesterday's cell phone.

Yeah, Op said "a cell phone," not "a cell phone in the future with face recognition, voice activiation, 3D printing, graphing calculator, and time travel." for which I'm sure OP would agree could be reasonably worth over $400.

OP used present tense, not future tense. It IS ridiculous to pay that much, but that doesn't mean it always WILL be.

I paid a lot less than that for my Kindle Fire. Which is a serious problem, since that thing can not only function as a huge chunk of the books currently in existence, but also lets me watch movies in surprisingly decent high-definition, plays my music (in an entirely different tab, I might add) and has an almost-acceptable screen size for internet surfing. With the apps I added, it also functions as three different drawing programs and is a formidable chess opponent, AND it's got Angry Birds. Subtract the books, add texting, knock down the quality of everything streamed from the net, and you've got an iPhone. In terms of services rendered, there does seem to be something wrong with that picture.

This is where I will disagree with you. With $400 dollars, you are obviously talking about the iphone. But not just any Iphone, the 64 GB version of the iphone. With this much space, one can transform the iphone into an incredible device. A device that can store thousands of songs, a few movies, countless pictures, countless apps, and countless podcasts... All on your cell phone. At 400 dollars, the iphone isnt just your cell phone, it is also your ipod, your picturebook, your portable dvd player, your gps, your calendar, your alarm clock, your web-browsing device, your video-call device, your grocery list, and your camera... All wrapped into a sleek piece of technology.

64 GB is a lot of space, though I completely see your point. I suppose some people would use more than 16 or 32. But also, I feel like the price would be lower if it wasn't an iphone. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think the new iphone had so many new features to be worth $400.

That works out to R3284, which isn't at all ridiculous for a phone. iPhones are at the very least R6000 +, and the Galaxy S III is about R6999 - R7699. As awesome as the S III is, and as awesome as some people might think a new iPhone is, it's pretty ridiculous.

iPhone's are $1000+ in New Zealand, and then you have to pay for a plan for calls and texts on top of that. Utterly ridiculous.
