What's wrong with The Notebook?

it is an overly sentimental poorly written piece of romantic crap. view some of Ryan Goslings other films to see his skills , "Blue Valentine", Crazy Stupid Love, Fracture , All Good Things. to name a few.

It's not like the notebook is the first movie that comes to mind when people think of Ryan Gosling. Plus, just because you don't like the movie doesn't mean he didn't do well in it. You would've been alot better off just saying the notebook is a piece of garbage, no need to carry your point on the Ryan Gosling fan bus.

There's a great way to say that and it goes something like "Ryan Gosling is a good actor, amirite?" If you still wanted to separate it from The Notebook, "Ryan Gosling is a good actor. He did really good in (list of a couple movies), amirite?"

Yeah, you seem to have a problem with the story itself, rather than Gosling's acting. Even if you didn't like the storyline the acting was superb in that movie.

Nicholas Sparks is a terrible writer. His novellas are trite sentimental, obvious pieces of schlock for the masses. Ryan Gosling degraded himself by starring in that film.

You'd think someone who does that much reading for a living would be a more careful writer. I know those aren't the same things, but they often go hand in hand. Not in your case, apparently.

You're stating all your personal beliefs like they're fact.. In my opinion Nicholas Sparks is a pretty decent writer in regards to diction, flow, etc. His plots are often cliche, yes, but some people enjoy that- everyone looks for different things when reading, and some people like sappy stories that will make them cry- they know they can get that from his writing. I think he does his job well. As for Gosling 'degrading' himself by starring in that film- that's just a baseless opinion. Obviously he thought otherwise or else he wouldn't have done it- and frankly I think he did an awesome job with bringing real depth into his character. Just because you dislike a story it doesn't mean everything connected to it is shit as well.

I'm not saying you're not entitled to your opinions! We all are, of course. I mean, my reply just then was riddled with 'I think'. But you're being very harsh about what you believe, and acting like just because you have a certain opinion, anyone who disagrees is wrong. I respect your opinions, but not the way you're presenting them.

Judging from that first bit you seem to think I'm being condescending, if that's the case, I'm sorry- that was not my intention./ Being homepaged does not validate your post- it just means a mod found it interesting or provoking./ Personal beliefs can, be considered personal facts, but the beliefs you mentioned are things concerning morality, ethics, etc.- much more serious and concrete issues than your opinion of a writer who you don't like because they're 'trite'.
