+126 The UK's church and state are directly linked, America's are not. And yet interestingly, an open atheist in the UK stands way more chance of being elected than someone constantly professing their religious belief, where the US is again the opposite. It's interesting how things turn out. amirite?

It's also interesting that there are often more churches than Christians in most European cities.

As it should be - a few less atheists would also be good - we need less isms and ists in our lives

Interesting, even back in the 70's only 4% of people in the UK admitted to going to church, the number has since dropped.

It's virtually impossible for an American non-Christian to win a major political election without lying about their religious views. Out of the 535 congressmen, 534 congressmen profess belief in god. Obviously lies are being told. The British are much more tolerant and open-minded when it comes to religion held by political office-holders. I think part of it is because the entire country's had so much religious bloodshed and turmoil that their citizens are fed up.
