+146 If a friend tells me that I should not be allowed to get married due to my sexuality or race or religion, it's justifiable that I slap him or her across the face if he or she doesn't listen to reason. amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Inspiration: This happened to me 15 minutes ago.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

did you slap him across the face?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I did. It felt good. My friend agreed, because she doesn't like him.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

y

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's pretty fucking awesome. How did he react?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

He said, "I'm done." Then he texted me later saying that I was being intolerant of his religious beliefs. So I told him to go fuck himself and that we aren't friends.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

"I was being intolerant of his religious beliefs" Jesus fucking Christ, I hate hearing that stupid line from people when you're discussing literally ANYTHING Anyway, I think you slapped him because of the heat of the moment. You're angry right now but when you look back you'll probably wish you would've handed that a bit differently? Or maybe not? Who knows. In this world it's pretty much impossible to escape the stupidity and close-mindedness of people.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Honestly I have no regrets of doing it. He really is a terrible person, not just because he's against gay marriage. That was just the final straw.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Damn. Well, he got what was coming to him. Sometimes jerks do need a good slappin' I suppose.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

When is violence justified? You resort to hurting another human being just because of a difference in opinion?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's not just an opinion anymore. It's denying my rights, as in he'd vote against me getting married were he given the chance. And that's not acceptable in the least.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Do you believe that it is a right? Or do you feel entitled to it? No HUMAN can encroach on your rights, it happens at a systemic level. Whether it be religion or government. He may voice a dissenting opinion, but he is powerless to stop you.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I am powerless to stop a whole government if I want to get married and I'm forbidden to do so due to the laws. If you can't reason with anyone, violence is inevitable.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What about his right to not get slapped in the face? :/

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's really REALLY sad that people actually down voted that violence is never justified...what the hell has the world come to? No person has the right to harm another any anyway unless it is self-defense. ...oh and this is coming from a Muslim btw. Shame on all those hypocrites who say that what Muslims terrorists are doing is bad when they themselves condone inflicting physical harm upon another in different situation. Utter bullshit.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Tbh, that doesn't really sound like a friend to me...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Which is precisely why you declare your unfriendship directly after you slap them.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Smart cookie!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Fair play. People say violence isn't the answer but some people really need a good slap.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Urinating on them would've been my choice

by Anonymous 11 years ago

As much as I'd love to show everyone my expertise in watersports...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But it's just something he believes. What's wrong with that?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It infringes on my rights to a gay marriage. He would go to the polls and vote against it if he could.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah, that's how this country works. (assuming you live in America, btw) We're allowed to vote on what we want how we want. He's entitled to vote based on how he feels and so are you. No infringement of rights there.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That doesn't mean it's just. If he thinks that it's okay that I am forbidden to marriage with another man, then he can feel a little sting of the pain I feel from being oppressed by society.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I see where you're coming from. I just think that everyone's entitled to their own opinion. It's not a perfect system. Everyone's 'oppressed' in some way. Life isn't fair, that's just how it is.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Life isn't fair because we make it unfair, that's the thing. Everyone just accepts that life is unfair and well that's it oh well too bad. That's not the case. We can change that fairness really easily if everyone just fucking listened to each other.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Haha I disagree with you there. Life's always gonna be unfair. It's just the way it is. How could we make life be completely and utterly fair? It's just not possible. And opportunity-wise, I think America's the most fair and accommodating to everyone.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

In what way is life just automatically unfair? Even if it is, that doesn't mean we can't make it fairer. There is a lot of bitching going on about life being unfair and then nobody does anything about it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm not bitching about anything, to be clear. But it's just the way it is, there's no answer to that. As a stupid example, because I can't think of another one on the spot, say you get paired up with someone you hate for some school project. Just little things like that, someone would be like 'omgggg why!' Because not everything's gonna work out perfectly for you all the time. You know? This is probably so unclear and not making my point, but that's all right. I'm just trying to say that people have the right to feel the way they do. And a lot of comments here are saying stuff like, 'I hate when someone's only excuse for being against gay marriage because of religion.' That's a big factor in a lot of people's lives. And as much as people say it's not, America is a religious country. Why do you think every president and every coin and dollar we have say stuff like, "in God we trust," and "God bless America." And there's nothing wrong with that. Religion is a good thing. And not all religious people are 'closed-minded' as you seem to think. So you shouldn't be so quick to judge.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes, we are allowed to vote on what we want, but we are not allowed to vote on the rights of another human being. I think that's part of the 14th Amendment? I'm not sure... Basically, if majority got to vote on the rights of the minority then the majority could oppress the minority.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's not how voting works in this country, majority rules the minority. The bicameral legislature makes it pretty fair to both majority and minority.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That is how voting works in this country. Do you remember learning about how segregation ended? It wasn't by majority vote. Why? Because the majority would have voted to suppress the minority. That's the exact same reason we shouldn't vote on gay marriage.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Then how should we handle it? It seems like you have the perfect plan in mind.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Actually, I do. Don't hold a vote. Let me marry my girlfriend and let all the other gay people marry their significant others too. That's what we did when people wanted to marry people of a different race than them. It worked then and it will work now.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No, no, no, no, no. This isn't a matter of opinion, it's a matter of human rights. Not allowing gay people to get married is not religious expression, it's religious OPPRESSION.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

He's a shitty person but you're kind of an idiot for hitting him. Like that changes anything, or makes anything better. You'll have absolutely no chance of changing his mind now.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If you knew him like I do, you'd know that nobody would change his opinion anyhow. He is //incredibly// stubborn and self-centered. He was done for from the start.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I can understand why you might have done it in the heat of the moment, if someone insulted me like that I might have done the same. But I don't think it was justifiable to hit him, because there was nothing to be gained from it. It's never really ok to try to punish someone for their views with physical violence, no matter how disgusting those views are.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think it is. If you're against equality in any way, you ought to be slapped. That's what I believe, personally. Honestly, that was the first time I ever hit anyone for being homophobic. It was worth it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think they deserve to be slapped, I don't think anyone should actually slap them. Might doesn't make right and it all just sets a nasty precedent.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Resorting to physical violence because someone disagrees with you is immature.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

"Hey you're black you should work in the cotton fields for me." "Hey you're Jewish I think you should be burned to death." Immature to hit them then? Okay.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Very immature. Someone saying that is //completely// different than someone actually killing or enslaving. I have the right to think that blacks should be enslaved. (I obviously don't think that, it's just a point.) If you resort to physical violence to handle a conversational dispute, you are obviously immature and incapable of debating.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

no. just no...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I liked your logic.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I am catholic and do not necessarily agree with homosexuality. However, what you do or who you marry does not affect me, therefore I would agree with you. It is perfectly possible to disagree and still respect at the same time.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why the fuck would u care?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Because as a catholic I'm supposed to believe that gay marriage "takes away our rights" when I don't believe it does

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why would you be okay with violence and domestic disturbance but be no homo all on somebody? Fuckin grow the fuck up

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why were you talking to this guy about a touchy subject if you knew he was an idiot in the first place?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't remember traveling to the topic. We just got onto it. "I knew he was stupid, but not //that// stupid," is what my friend said, which I think makes sense here.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Oh. Well I guess that makes more sense then.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What!? Seriously? Adonis I love just about everything you say and do on this site but that's just unreasonable. You are saying 'Physical violence is the only resort when I have a difference of opinions with someone' outrageous. His views alone would have ended my friendship with him if I was in your shoes, but logically if he got on here and said 'if my friend tells me he should have the right to marry anyone regardless of my religion it's justifiable that I slap him across the face if he won't listen to reason.' he should get just as many upvotes as you. The posts homosexual debate content is irrelevant, the debate is whether to slap someone for disagreeing with you, and if you agree with this post you are saying that your 'friend' was just as much justified if he'd slapped you at the end of the conversation instead. I feel like you pulled on a heart string on Amirite with the gay rights basis because most people wouldnt 'YYA' a post that says 'I am justified slapping someone who disagrees with me, and who many would say is being irrational Amirite?' I am not appalled or surprised that in the tension of the moment you slapped him, I'm surprised how many think it was right to do.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There's a degree of disagreement to where it's reasonable. It's stupid to slap someone for not liking your favorite band, but I think it's reasonable to slap someone for downright disbelieving in equality between races, sexuality, or sex. Because they're holding society back and being stupid, and deserve some sort of punishment for it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That punishment Should have been your friendship. I don't think any one individual can judge when some one is being so unreasonable they should have physical damage inflicted on them.
