+164 It's ridiculous that there are books banned from certain libraries because of their content. Don't like it? Then don't read it. It's not your job to force your beliefs and values on others by tellin us what we can and cannot read, amirite?

I need to know more about this, but I feel like if a library owner doesn't want a book in their library they don't have to provide that book. I mean, it's not your job to force people to conform to your beliefs either and if you want that book, go to somewhere that has it.

In our school we have a display of books that are banned in other libraries. I was forced to read most of them (To Kill a Mockingbird, etc) once there was even the bible. It was pretty sad.

I can understand books like Mein Kampf being unwanted in a library, but To Kill a Mockingbird...? OMG THEY SAID NEGRO BIG WHOOPY HOLY SHIT. Out of curiosity, what other kinds of books are banned? I don't really know much about the subject, but I'm really interested. I'm even taking a banned books and censorship class next semester, but until then I don't know shit.

I had to do an assignment on this two years ago actually. our teacher had each group read a book that was banned in another school district. My group has The One Who Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest... other books include Animal Farm and basically any book that can be taken offensively. School districts has the right to ban ANY book, based on complaint.

That's so weird, all of those books were required for me to read in English class.

Soo... Fifty Shades of Grey should be in my school library?

I doubt that book is banned from your library. It's more than likely serendipitous.

You know, hippies are just fascists in disguise.

Basically in school libraries if a parent complains they take it off the shelves. They don't do that in mine. Ecause the librarian like to let us make our own decisions. The reasons that most are banned are stupid. Harry Potter was banned because of family neglect and the witch stuff. Hunger games was banned. A light in the attic, twilight, the bible, etc. I just found it interesting how narrow minded people can be especially when in most cases they haven't even read the book.
